They See Only Darkness

I'm a new GM and I have Phandelver set up with Dynamic Lighting. All the character tokens have vision enabled and emit light. I move the Players banner to the appropriate maps and they only see darkness. On maps with Daylight enabled they see only darkness. I switched to Legacy Lighting with Global Illumination, same darkness from character view. I've tried in Firefox and Chrome and on two different computers, so I do not think it is a plug-in or browser issue. Please help. I've got nothing but darkness for my characters, except for the landing page, which for some reason they can see.

Hi Daniel! Here's a "why can't my players see anything?" checklist. The important thing is to verify. Don't assume. The token is on the VTT It is assigned to the character the player has control over the character The token is on the Token/Object layer It is not blocked off by DL lines from seeing the immediate surroundings If Fog of War is being used, that the area the token is in has been cleared The player has not been Split from the Party (Check the Help Center if this is unfamiliar) If Dynamic Lighting of any kind is being used: The token has sight turned on The token has a light source, or Nightvision (UDL) or personal light (LDL)

Why would the token need a light source? I have a fire and a torch right next to my token using the new DL. Token has vision, light sources emit light. CTRL L on token and it's all dim light, bright light doesn't help at all. Daylight mode doesn't help at all. This all used to work.

I said, "The token has a light source, or Nightvision (UDL) or personal light (LDL)". I put that first extra "or" in the list to indicate these are all separate things. If you put a light emitting campfire next to the token, then it has a light source (the fire). In any case, for testing what players see, do not depend on Ctrl-L. It has never been intended for that, and admittedly works even worse for that purpose in UDL than in LDL. What you are reporting is a documented shortcoming. The purpose of Ctrl-L is for determining Line of Sight. To test a DL setup, log in as a player with control over the token, or better still (the acid test, and the one I usually recommend), use a  Dummy Account .
