Lamentations of the Flame Princess old school sandbox campaign

Hi, I'm looking for 3 to 6 players to participate in a LOTFP campaign. It's going to be a sandbox type campaign, so players will choose where to go, what to explore, etc. It will also have high mortality and difficulty, so be sure to bring your best game to the table ;). Very dark and controversial themes will be featured, with lots of gore and some nudity, players must be 18 or older and have an open mind. It's going to be text based, to keep that old school feeling, but of course, we will also use the resources provided here at Roll20 such as textures, images, etc. Here's a link with more information: https://app.roll20.net/campaigns/details/104067/dark-clouds It could be run on a weekly basis, but that will depend on everyone's schedule. Please let me know if you need more information about it. Thanks!
I forgot to add that the players should have no knowledge of any of Raggi's modules or adventures, because I will be using them throughout the campaign.
I've heard of LotFP before but never got a chance to play it. I'd be available on Tue, Wed, and Fridays only though.
I would love to join, Saturday would be perfect for me (which is Friday in the US I believe since I am Australian) but can make almost any time. I am still fairly new to D&D/roll play games but have played a couple small one shots Also we aren't authorized to access that link
Ok guys, you are both in, let's see if somebody else is interested, then we can schedule a time to play; in the meantime, I will be fine tuning some things, it will probably take me less than 5 days or so. You can download the free rules and official character sheet here: http://www.lotfp.com/RPG/products/lotfp-weird-fantasy-role-playing
I'll check the link authorization thing as well.
Ok, I found the right link; I will send it to you guys once everything is set up correctly.
Sweet, i'll read through the rules and get a character concept started in that time
Hey up for another player?
Welcome aboard Joshua S. (wow, 2 Joshuas, maybe that's a good omen), we have 3 players, let's see if we can get 3 more. By the way guys, you can start creating your characters right away, use the 4d6 method to generate stats, discard the lowest die but you can only roll once; you can also distribute the stats wherever you like, that is, if you rolled 10, 15, 12, etcl, you can place 12 on strength, 10 on intelligence, etc. Once your character is complete, send me his stats so that I can put them in the campaign roster. The campaign is gonna be really deadly and gritty, very different from your standard fantasy affair, so don't get too attached to your character ;) It's also a good idea to tell the others what type of character you will use, so you can assemble a balanced party. I recommend the holy trinity, magic user, fighter (or specialist if you will depend more on stealth) and cleric, but you can also pick elf instead of wizard, dwarf instead of fighter, and halfling instead of specialist. If you have any questions, let me know.
This looks like a very interesting game. I would have to really sink my teeth into the rules, but I should be good for most evenings during the week besides Friday.
Welcome Tavish; we now have 4 players, waiting for more.
By the way I will intend to be playing a cleric
When you create characters, remember to buy equipment wisely according to the amount of silver pieces (normal currency) you receive as your starting money. You will explore a variety of places, from wilderness to dark dungeons. The campaign starts at winter season, there is light to heavy snow.
Ok Joshua V., you can choose one spell that you like from the cleric spell list; important, clerics in this game cannot turn undead unless they have prepared the "Turn Undead" spell.
Okay thanks
I do believe I'll take up the arms of a fighter.
Ok, we have: Joshua V: Cleric Tavish: Fighter
I forgot: when rolling starting hit points, roll twice and take the highest roll.
I think i would like to join this.
Ok John, welcome aboard; we have 5 players, there's room for 1 more. Vanedrim, are you still in?
Do you want so see our rolls or are we trust worthy? Also I was looking over the rules and it seemed to me that elves, dwarves and halflings are their own class.
Nah, I trust you guys. Yes, this game is completely old school, that is, you don't choose a race and then a class; non human races are classes. The elf is a decent fighter and good magic user, but he is slow to level up and racism may affect him in some places; the dwarf is a good fighter substitute, that serves more as a meat shield than as a damage dealer, he is also knowledgeable in architecture, which will be useful to find hidden or strange things in a structure, but he does not have dark vision in this game; Halflings have great survival and stealth skills, as well as good saving throws, but are not very useful in combat, however, their size may save them from triggering traps and will help them reach and fit into places others cannot. Joshua V. just finished creating his cleric. I'll wait for a bit to see if we can get one more player, if not, we'll schedule a time and date for the session to start the game with whatever players we have.
I think I will be a specialist. Do we get max hit point at first level?9
You roll twice for your initial hp and take the highest roll. The die you use should be in the free booklet (It is a 1d6 I believe for specialist). Also add your constitution modifier to the end result
Yes, just like he said, thanks Joshua V.
Ok, so far we have: Joshua V: Cleric Tavish: Fighter John M: Specialist Recommended class for the next player: Magic User or Elf.
I might be interested in an elf/magic user. I'm only available mon and tues evenings, 7pm EDT (GMT -4)
Ok Tex. I'm available at that time as well; once we finish recruitment, let's see if everyone else is also avilable at that time.
Everything is almost ready! So, in the meantime, I need confirmation of those who are going to participate; Joshua V, Tavish and John M do not need to respond, because they have been updating their character generation progress; unless something unexpected comes up, I'll consider them confirmed. Tex is also in, but we still need to confirm if everyone is available at either Monday or Tuesday 7 pm EDT (GMT-4). I also need to know if someone here has played any of Raggi's modules, and if any of you has read Gygax quarterly magazine no.1. It's fairly obvious, but some if not all of that material will be used in the campaign, although there is some original content by me. One last reminder that this game is heavy on gore and some explicit content; most of these adventures are truly sick masterpieces not for the faint of heart. The difficulty is very high as well, so it will be remarkable if a character manages to survive several adventures, and miraculous if he survives the entire campaign. Each adventure seed is optional, the characters are mostly driven by greed, glory, and the thrill of adventure; if the party chooses an adventure opportunity that proves too difficult, it is better to run away. You could come back later, but it is likely that the opportunity will be gone (because other adventurers sacked the place or some supernatural effect caused it to disappear). There are also some red herrings, that will net little to no reward (although, experience points are always there). Some monsters are extremely powerful, it is not uncommon to face foes that overpower the party, retreat is a good option; some of them are simply unbeatable. Collecting treasure is the fastest and relatively safest way to gain experience points. You pretty much need to be very lucky or a psychic to choose the right path ;)
Tuesday evenings sound like a great time.
I am fine for both of those times but I am currently looking for a job so I will let you know if that interferes at all if I get one. (7pm GMT-4 is about 10am for me)
That should be fine for me as it will be 4:00 PM if my math is correct. Might be a bit late some days though, hopefully not by much.
Ok cool; w e can start this Tuesday at 7 PM EDT (GMT-4), the session could last something between 1 to 2 hours. By the way, we will be using the following house rule: when you get a critical hit, the enemy will suffer a random disadvantage (drops a weapon, trips and falls down, etc.) according to different factors such as terrain, weapons used, etc., and when you get a critical miss, you will suffer a disadvantage.
Cool, should be interesting
Elf is ready
Ok Tex, send me your character sheet when you have the time.
Thanks Tex. In case some last minute players want to join, I recommend they choose a Dwarf. While an extra Cleric or Magic User may sound like good options, the Dwarves are good explorers and warriors, and know many obscure details about their culture that may come in handy.
Will we be using any programs outside of roll20? Like skype or anything?
No, just roll20. But it would be useful if you have some paper or a virtual notepad open at all times, to write down clues, important details. etc. Some people also like to have graph paper or some kind of grid application as well, to analyze the dungeon or wilderness layout, even though we'll be using the grid here. To those of you who have not submitted their character sheets yet, I would appreciate it if you send them to me via PM before Tuesday; any format is fine.
I usually keep a notepad with me on these things for any quick notes or sketches I think I need
Just a quick reminder John and Tavish, that it would be really helpful if you could send me your character sheets before tomorrow. And in case that by tomorrow John and Tavish can't make it, Joshua V. and Tex, do you want to wait until we get at least two other people, or would you like to start playing tomorrow, with each of you controlling two characters (for a party of 4)?
Thanks Tavish, I just got your sheet.
I can wait, but I'm good either way.
I don't mind waiting, I think it would be better to wait instead of kinda forcing new comers into a role they may or may not like.
That's true; still, it's a good thing that you have fighter, cleric and elf in your current party configuration, so if John has some unexpected setback, the three of you can still make decent progress.
So will we be delaying till next week? Just need to know if I should wake up early or not.
No, we are all set, John just sent me his sheet, you've got yourselves a Specialist; we start today!
Sweet i'm ready, just need to get breakfast
And I am also ready
