Roll20 Looking for Group IRC

Hello, I wanted to suggest a looking for group IRC for the roll20 community. It would be nice to have a live chat to get games together on the fly. It would be good for running one-shots for new players to introduce them to a system. Or for GMs if too many players can't make it to a session they can grab a few players out of the IRC to fill in for them. From my limited experience with MMOs they have something similar for people looking for "raiding" groups and it works quite well. In this case instead of a raiding group it would be a pen-and-paper group. Forums are nice, but they are of limited use for in finding players and GMs on-the-spot and I think an LFG IRC would a great addition to the website.

We had a chat room once but it was abused and then it got shut down. However, some people create "open games" for the purposes of chatting etc. You may want to consider such an option.
Hey Gauss It was my understanding that persistent open games were disliked or even banned. Short temporary rooms like I often make are ok, but if something is kept open too long, too many people join, and that causes problems? Is that correct, and still a rule? Otherwise I can easily see something being left open fulltime, for everyone who wants to drop in. Which isn't really that different from a chatroom, I suppose. I'd love an official (or not-so-official) chatroom of some sort for Roll20, but I see the problems that could invite. What's the official word, do you know? -Phnord

I am not aware of a policy against it. IIRC, there are possible bugs in a game that has people permanently in it but using it as a chat room doesn't mean people are permanently in it. In any case, I will check with the Devs.
Thanks for the timely response. I have set up an open group, but a general chat would have been a nice addition. However, I understand if it takes too much effort to police. Hopefully it can be reconsidered in the future
