Campaign : Homebrew campaign with Oriental flavoring on D&D during medieval Japan. Imagine 200+ civil war with a loose political structure where a few institutions span the land while smaller kingdoms ruled by daimyos, warlords, powerful spellcasters, etc. impact people's day to day lives. There are 3 institutions: Amana... Think a polytheistic Christianity which has made a foothold in the central regions but seeks to push its pantheon of gods further out. Order of Odana... Viewed as a pagan institution by the Amana for acknowledging but not preaching the pantheon held by the above. They are rooted in local beliefs and have served as an influential via a series of monasteries and are important social and, in some cases, militaristic institution. Zsoldos Valor... Magic costs money for both reagents, spells, etc. This group buys, sells and loans to both magical and non-magical clientele. They practice debt politics. Follow their rules and pay on-time, both sides remain happy. Be late or cross their path, a bounty will be placed and collected on. Recently they've sought to legitimize themselves taking their wealth and turning it into political and social capital. TBD on objective as it will depend on players. Starting level 1 or 2. New player friendly. I usually host a separate 1 shot for new players prior to session 1 to go through mechanics. RAW, Rule of Cool or Homebrew: I tend to go RAW as a baseline and will note if you are doing something cool to bend the rules as a 1-off. As far as homebrew rules, I only have 2: 1) Each player gets a feat at level 1. This disincentives variant Human (I know) and yes some power creep but I personally feels gives more personalization day 1. 2) Short rest rules... I divide it into 15/30/60 min breaks which give 1 hit die / half normal short rest benefit rounded down / full short rest benefit, respectively, to not lose immersion. Logistics: A shorter 3-4 month campaign going 1 to 8 and then seeing how the group gels and potentially going further. Sessions would be 1pm CET/GMT+2 and ~3 hours long. I can only host during this time. Roll20 visual with Discord for audio. Content: D&D official content inclusive of Wildmount, Eberron, Tasha's, etc. I would need to be given a heads-up on other races/classes. For example, I'm open to items in DM Guild as long as they are balanced. About the DM: I've DMed for 3 campaigns spanning ~3 years, the longest of which went 2 years. I believe the DM's role is to ensure everyone has fun and to collaborate with everyone to build a world they are invested in. For that reason, I place a lot of emphasis on backstory, motive and goal prior to starting any session. That being said, combat is a big part of D&D. I do not do dungeon crawls often. I will often try combats which leverage the terrain and thinking in a 3-D world despite a 2-D map. My hope is to find a group of players who will see a room and look to interact with it (i.e. climbing vertically, flipping the table, diving behind a pillar, etc.) rather than standing toe-to-toe like chopping wood each session. Note, I as the DM cannot make you play together as a group. That has to be something that each person has to come into the session committed to. I acknowledge that I may not be the right DM for everyone depending on your playstyle and that is okay. How to apply : Preferably, contact me via discord at Thayadell#3011 because I get notifications there. If you send me a PM on roll20, I apologize for any delay. I place emphasis on screening as much as possible to avoid turnover. Please confirm to me: - That you are free at 1pm CET/GMT+2... This means most weekends. - What sort of game you are looking for... i.e. you want something like Witcher/Skyrim, like Dimension 20, serious campaign, political intrigue, etc. - Experience with D&D... I.e new player, forever DM, played only a few 1-shots, etc. this is for me to think about people's experiences - Your character concept... Backstory before class/race. A good backstory is foundational to me. Race/character are window dressing. Please remember, don't be a pizza cutter... all edge and no point.
