The Adventure This adventure begins with you being summoned to the tropical peninsula of Chult in order to find and put an end to a mysterious phenomenon that recently began afflicting the Forgotten Realms. This phenomenon has been dubbed "The Death Curse" and this name perfectly summarizes the level of danger you can expect to meet in Chult. Character Creation Your Characters begin at Level 3, and you should expect your initial Character to die before the end, probably in a horrifically violent (but hopefully ENTERTAINING) manner. This is the sort of adventure where you should go all out in trying to create as powerful of a Character as possible. It was designed to be difficult, and to kill your Characters. We will use Point Buy to generate Ability Scores, and I will allow each of your initial Characters to start with one bonus Feat. Content from all Official Wizards of the Coast Books is allowed, Unearthed Arcana and Homebrew have to be approved by me first, but I tend to allow anything that isn't too "out there" so don't worry. The Death Curse Twenty days before the adventure begins, a mysterious, and dark, magical effect came into existence, baffling everyone, from the most accomplished of wizards to the wisest of priests. However, it has been discovered that the Curse has the following properties ; The Wasting Effect : Any humanoid on the planet that has been brought back from the dead begins to waste away. Its hit point maximum is reduced by 20 and decreases by 1 every midnight. If a humanoid's hit point maximum drops to 0, it dies. Traveling to another world or plane does nothing to halt The Wasting Effect once it has begun. Dread Withering : A humanoid whose hit point maximum is reduced can't increase or restore it. This is true whether the creature's hit point maximum is reduced by the Curse itself or by some other life-draining effect, such as the touch of a wight, wraith, or similar creature. Soul Siphon : If a humanoid dies anywhere on the planet, its soul is seemingly "captured" by the Curse, and taken to some currently unknown location. As a consequence of the Soul Siphon effect constantly tugging at the souls of the dying, a death saving throw now succeeds on a roll of 15 or higher (instead of 10 or higher). Other rules concerning death saving throws remain unchanged. Any spell that breathes life into the dead (including revivify, raise dead, resurrection, and true resurrection) automatically fails if cast on a humanoid whose soul has been "siphoned" by the Curse. The Curse does not affect the workings of speak with dead spells or similar magic, nor does it have any effect on preexisting ghosts or spirits. About the GM I have been GM-ing with 5th Edition D&D for 5 years, and I've had the pleasure of experiencing all the deadly traps and monsters this module has to offer myself as player. I strive to create an inclusive, friendly atmosphere around the virtual table, one where people feel comfortable roleplaying, asking questions, trying out zany schemes that may or may not result in horrible consequences, you name it. I use the rules, the dice and the content of the adventure book as more of a guideline for how to run the game rather than something to follow to the letter. I find this allows for more immersive gaming, and it also helps accommodate my general approach to GM'ing; the game is an exercise in collaborative storytelling more than a contest between the Players and the GM, and the GM is there to provide the world and manage the players' interactions with it. Whenever I play through an adventure as a GM, I always tend to create custom content such as side-quests, NPC's and so on tailored to your PC's, their backstories and their goals to further flesh out the adventure and make it unique to the Characters you create. Game Info The Game will be run using Roll20 and Discord exclusively. When you get added, I'll give you all the necessary links. We will start with a Session 0 to discuss character backstories, create the PC's, introduce the Epic Quest and the land of Chult. This Session 0 does not require payment, and lets you decide if you want to go ahead with the campaign afterwards. Payments for future sessions will be collected via PayPal. You can choose to pay for Sessions individually for €10 (or an equivalent in either GBP, USD, AUD, NZD and so on), or to pay in advance for a Month worth of sessions for €35. Mandatory Disclaimer: Roll20 is not responsible for any payment transactions and cannot enforce any private arrangements.
