This sounds like a crazy idea, but it might just have some merit. (This is also listed in the Looking for Players Listings - Same title. Feel free to apply there.) I am looking to form a gaming group specifically targeting parents. We all have our normal days of work, chores, and especially kids, and now it is time for us to have some fun. I have found this to be especially difficult in these times of COVID. So let’s see if we can do something about it. I would like a diverse gaming group and invite those interested to apply. As mentioned, I am looking for parents of children for this group. My hope is that we will all have an understanding that those little buggers do need to factor in as well. If nothing else, random questions from them, the need to get snacks, quick bedtimes, etc. just might be happening. I am also looking for a balance between testosterone and estrogen. I find too much of one leads to unbalanced play. So far I have had a lot of male interest. I'd love to diversify that. I welcome new and beginning players, as well as anyone that knows a bit, but is also willing to help/teach those that know very little. (Patience required.) Lastly, and I know this is a big ask... I am looking for a group where we take turns GMing. I am willing to go first, setting the tone and kicking things off. I am also happy to always help players make characters no matter who is GMing, but sometimes I just would like to be a player using my NPC as a PC. To this end I am also willing and expecting to help other GMs with various bits of advice, rules questions, and even go so far as to make the games on my Pro Account and list you as a Co-Gm so that you get all the benefits (Modules, Tokens, Dynamic Lighting, etc.) and have none of the cost. I also own most of the resource books on Roll20. With the reality of life, and those kids, I am assuming premade modules would be the easiest and best, perhaps from the Yawning Portal or Candle Keep, or both! So who is with me? Any parents out there want to give this a shot? I would figure we would meet each other to discuss this idea, character concepts and start dates/times first. Perhaps start playing in June-ish. I also figure this would be an every other week sort of schedule. In your reply (post below or in the game listings) please include… - Name: - Description of age (no actual ages needed): - Age of children: - Time Zone: - Best play nights/times: - Where you sit on the testosterone/estrogen scale: - Where you sit on the Never played/I’ve played since version 1.0 D&D scale: - If you have a character concept / play style. (Don’t worry, we will meet to develop characters before we play.): Here’s my write up for your reference - Name: Goose - Description of age: I am what you might consider an old timer with a young heart. - Age of children: one child Age 11 - Time Zone: Eastern - Best play nights/times: After 8pm. Not Tuesdays, Prefer not Friday or Saturday. - Where you sit on the testosterone/estrogen scale: Male and I do love combat, but I try VERY hard to be a role player and think with my brain and not other parts. My favorite D&D campaign I run includes only women. They actually ask questions before they hit things! - Where you sit on the Never played/I’ve played since version 1.0 D&D scale: So, yeah, I played the first version of D&D. But I was very young at the time. I always consider the story more important than the individual rolls of the players as long as it furthers that story. As GM I have been known to have the monsters “miss” an attack because my players have been doing everything they can, but just getting crappy rolls. - If you have a character concept / play style: My preferred play is a support character. Specifically, Sorcerer (Healer) or Bard of Lore. Though I just made an NPC for my other campaign and they are a Bard of Eloquence and came out pretty neat. For the technical among you out there, I also want to use these tenets for play... - Rules will be followed in the RAI fashion from the core D&D books. (Rules as Intended - Errata and Sage Advice will be consulted from time to time.) - Characters will follow the expanded section in the TCE resource book. (Tasha’s Cauldron of Everything, with some simple added benefits sprinkled in for balance.) - Books Allowed - PHB, DMG, XGE, TCE, SCAG, VGM. Possible sections allowed can come from other materials if they are balanced. - Books not allowed - MOT, AI, EGW. (I feel none of these are balanced with core D&D books) - The simplified Spell Point system will be used in place of Spell Slots for players. - Character concepts (class / race) will be allowed to be slightly “tweaked” in a home brew fashion to allow particular concepts to be played. That said, these “tweeks” WILL be fair and balanced. - All players will have the same XP totals. (Even if they miss a night.) - Players will gain XP, not their characters. This simply means that if a character should die a player’s new character will have the same XP as the former. - Gameplay will be balanced with nice doses of Roleplay, Storytelling and Combat. - While the frequency of death of a character should be normal, the ability to have a character raised should always be attainable. That said, asking for payment, favors or quests in return, should also be common. This is easily attainable through the Religious Order Patron perk (free raise dead spells). - All participants will help each other with the rules. Since we are all playing and/or GMing, and many of us possibly for the first time, it would be nice to help each other and not be disruptive. (On a personal note I have been GMing for 500+ hours and I still don’t know all the rules. I still look to my players for some clarification.) - Real world family is a thing. We should have no issues with delaying for a moment or even a play session if there are personal issues that happen. Especially when it involves our children. - We will play with both video and voice through Roll20. I find seeing people helps for expression and roleplay. And besides, we are parents, we don’t need to impress anyone.
