LFG | Roll20: Online virtual tabletop Experience Level: All Levels   Location/Timezone: Eastern Standard Time   Day and Time: Thursdays 6:00 PM EST   Starting: June 3   DM Contact info: mysticvhedd#6266 “I’ve seen many things in my journeys across this wild land, stranger. I’ve seen an Empire march its soldiers across valleys for the growth and prosperity of its king. I’ve laid witness to freedom fighters, shooting their cannons at the ruling class they consider their oppressors. I’ve felt the embrace of the sun in a land that reveres it as their divine redemption, despite their inclination to the darkness. And yes, I have seen darkness, deep and unforgiving as those that wear it like a gentle blanket.   “To thrive in these lands requires a daring that most people that live here cannot ever hope to obtain. . . but you’re different. A certain drive, you wear it on your sleeve like a noble’s favorite cufflinks, or like the Revelry that flies their colors across the seas with pride. Yes, you might have what it takes to have your name remembered forever in the annuals of history. It matters not what compels you: wealth, glory, peace of mind, discovery. . . these are merely tools of the trade when it comes to you adventuring types. But what do I know, I’m merely a lone Traveler. . . “?   Enter the lands of Wildemount and explore the many factions and adversities that lay waiting for worthy heroes to unveil its secrets. Join the forces of the mighty Dwendalian Empire and have your name written down in history as the fighters for the security and safety of your people. Sail the Menagerie Coast and offer your services to the Clovis Concord for fame and fortune. Discover the greater mysteries of the enigmatic Kryn Dynasty that opposes the Dwendalian Empire’s endless expansion and unlock the forces of dunamancy. Wherever you choose to plant your flag, there is always a side to every story, and there is always a journey to be had! Now before we go much farther, a few ground rules. Should you be a descent considerate person, you can skip over these.   1) Cursing is allowed at my table, but I request that it be used as a tactic for the purpose of character building and authenticity—in other words, in moderation. Keep the nature of your vulgarity and the comfort of your table-mates in mind. If you are asked to tone down your use of vulgarity or avoid a particular use of it in the future, be mindful of that request.   2) Be respectful of the time people spend in the spotlight. Please, try to keep talking over one another to a minimum. Granted, we will all be getting to know one another, and over time we should develop a rapport that will avoid such issues. As a good rule of thumb, use roll20’s typed-chat feature in between turns when initiating a moment of RP while another party member is currently RPing; use discord’s similar feature when speaking OOC or cracking jokes.   3) Mic check! We've all been in a game where we heard the background of another player’s mic. This can and does diminish the fluidity of the game as well as people’s enjoyment. No one needs to hear the crunch of your snack between rounds of combat! Make sure to mute yourself while eating, or else avoid eating during the game.   4) The majority of this game will be run via the rules as written. If you want to do something on the fly that bends the rules but does not outright break them, the rule of cool comes into effect! During a game, my adjudication is final. You may contact me privately if an adjudication bothers you. I may choose to alter future adjudications based on your expressed argument, but I reserve the right to refuse to do so. Do not bog down playtime with debate. That being said, I am fine with a “rules lawyer” helping the table by briefly citing an arcane and often forgotten rule or trying to elevate the game during epic moments, but once I make a call, leave contention and debate for post-game discussion.   5) Follow “Wheaton’s Law” (Don’t be a dick) and have fun!   Why pay for D&D:   Low turnover Commitment - Scheduled games are not cancelled or postponed unless the following applies: Major Holiday, less than 4 players show to the table or by player vote. Payment ensures the DM shows up to each session prepared. Additionally, they type of player that pays tend not to be disruptive, disrespectful of the group or murder Hobos.   Custom stories/Encounter  - I take a lot of time to modifying the story to include character driven plot hooks and analyze each group to exploring and finding the best mix of combat, exploration, and social elements.   Living worlds  – D&D games should never feel like just a module take off the store shelf. The reason why D&D has endured so long and continues to grow in popularity is because of one thing: CHOICE!  Your actions and choices have visible and meaningful impact the setting and does change the story!   What you can expect from me:   -My name is Sean McCaw. I am a musician and writer of 12 years and have been playing Dungeon’s and Dragons for the last three years. I discovered the game in the early years of high school back in the 3.5e days, though never considered it any more than a fun game at the time. Now with more experience under my belt and a greater appreciation and passion for the game, I have been working towards unfurling the possibilities of creating awe inspiring and magical experiences for the people who share a game table with me.   -My style leans more into the power-fantasy spectrum over the grimdark. Heroes have always been considered exceptions to the rule of what is common in the worlds they tend to explore, and I like my games to reflect that in meaningful ways. There will be struggles, and there will be choices, but these actions will shape the world much more strongly than your average common folk or local guard. Your presence will breathe life or death into wherever you go, and when you move on to the next quest or leave things unattended, you will return to these places and notice that change. For better or worse, your world moves with or without you, and I hope to bring these experiences and more to every session I am in.   -The story we tell at my table will always be driven and focused on the players, and the campaign at large will reflect that. This is your story, and these tales we tell will be yours. The more of the world you tie into your background and backstory, the more it will show. If you are a player who prefers to have less backstory, then the world will reflect that as well. Family connections, oaths of vengeance, Friends you’ve made and left on your way towards the path of an adventurer; all these and more will be placed in wherever you explore, and they will shape how the game is played. I highly encourage and reward players who build and engage in storytelling and roleplaying. There may be times where a certain part of your backstory cannot be implemented in its entirety, for example: If your backstory takes place in Location A, but we’re starting our campaign together at Location B, thousands of miles away from your backstory; it’s going to be difficult to implement the how's and whys of reaching your first session. I recommend being flexible in your backstory and will do my best to work with every player to reach a satisfying agreement.   -I’ve spent a majority of my time with the world of Wildemount as well as Eberron and have found their expansive source of lore and world building to be the top of its game. The more nuanced aspects of the compendium, like optional rules, will be discussed before campaigns.   -I do my best cater to a balance of social and combative gameplay but will ultimately put things down to a majority rule for preferences. These aspects will always be discussed before the game to establish a common ground and expectation for what will happen most often at my table.   -Difficulty will be actively tweaked based on several factors, including but not limited to: Access to resources, challenge ratings, number of party members NPC or otherwise, and current magical loadout (spells and magic items) These are subject to change at any time. There will be encounters that can be swept and there can also be encounters deemed deadly. Players determine whether to fight or flee at any time during encounters, and creatures will react accordingly.   -I do fall under a more ‘by the books’ approach to the game. However, while the sourcebooks may be an anchor that helps guide the way the world works, there are times where we can all agree to pull that anchor up and open the sails; if ideas in the game become better stories than what the rules provide for, we will most always lean towards what sounds cool over what the book says. I expect players to not take advantage of these opportunities at every moment. While I have a good grasp of the compendium, I’m no D&D Beyond, there will be times where I may need clarification on certain rules or effects, and patience is very much my highest regarded quality to have as we all aim for an enjoyable experience.   -I have an expectation for players new and old to be respectful to the lowest common denominator; this game has always been a collaborative tabletop game, if you cannot be inclusive, kind, and patient in the gaming experience of others, you may be playing the wrong game. You’re an adventuring “Party” and in my table that means if player characters have differences, it is highly encouraged to put them aside in order for players to solve things together. From my experience, PVP has always been a game killer, breaking the trust of character and party alike. I discourage it at my table, and hope that you respect the actions of each party member. If you have to cheat and metagame to enjoy the game, I don’t recommend being in one of my campaigns. Let’s work together to have an amazing time.
