You should be able to edit the settings for characters and handouts and just remove the player names from permission as needed.  Just click the "x" next to the player's name to remove them.

Are they listed on the game home page anymore? If they are there, they will be in the drop down. If you have actually booted them from the game home page, but they are still appearing, you will need to file a  Help Center Request , as this is a dev-fixable issue.
