Weekly Gaming Session Summary #55 (06/13/2021)

Thank You For Playing today's game 06/13/2021 - From 8:15 EDT, until 11:00 pm EDT, and our 293rd Gaming Session, goes out to: Barbarian – Human – Regnom Stilltaker – Kurtis S. Cleric – Human - Sheila - Daniel M.   Game Summary for Sunday Evening (06/13/2021): Opening Scene: It is now 59 days into the adventure (since setting off in the Belle Venture), and It is now:  9:00 am on September 21st (Day 51 on the Isle of Dread). The party is cautiously going through the wizard Horan’s house when Allowishis was almost pounced upon by an invisible faithful hound and the party started to flail their weapons about to no avail trying to hit the magical creature! As it turns out another curious onlooker decides to enter Horan’s compound, following the trail of dead bodies inside, until he sees a Yuan-Ti Abombination keeping watch on the porch steps, the fellow is Garis, an Elf thief. Garis says, “Hello??? All this loot belong to anyone? Anyone mind if I help myself to freebees?” Yuan-Ti Abomination says, “Sure, help yourself to all you want here. But we need to find Horan and Kwairno first. Care to help? Just mosey along inside the house.” Garis, walks into the house to meet the party and greets them asking, “What is all this then”? Sheila says, “Hey There, we’re on a mission to kill those that support the demon Sertrous. Care to join us”?! Xilicien says, “So you’ll help then”? Garis says, “Not much inclined to help those that support demons…What’s the pay”? Sheila says, “Whatever we can take, as well as doing good for the world”. Garis says, “Well, purse is part of the world, so filling it will be doing good. Full belly is also a good extra. You having a problem with that door? Sheila says, “Seems to have a magical guard dog”. Xilicien says, “The Invisible cur guarding it”. Garis says, “Invisible you say”? Xilicien says, “Yes”. Camlin says, “This invisible dog is a pain in the butt”. Garis says, “They do tend to nibble there… Even when drink  isn’t involved, or invisibility”. Garis has a quick look in the supply room but there is nothing of a powdery nature that he was hoping for. Allowishis attempts to find a trap on the sliding door, rolling a 69% needing ≤ 40%, she did not find one.  She turns invisible and slides open the door without interference from the invisible hound. Beyond is a west going hallway with 2 sliding doors on the south wall. Allowishis, attempts to hear something beyond  the south door first, rolling a 69%, needing ≤ 30%, she did not hear anything. Now the invisible faithful hound, takes a bite at Regnom from behind and hits for 7 piercing damage! Barks at him then stops. Garis, takes a swing with his short sword but it strikes nothing! Allowishis, slides open the first south door to see: In this room are a pallet, several cushions and a small shelf with several small vials, statuettes, ceremonial daggers and old scrolls, there is also a large chest with several small drawers. Allowishis, attempts to find a trap on the chest of drawers and rolls a 2% needing ≤ 40% and did not find one! A voice calls out, “I would suggest you all to leave. This is not an inn with a sight seeing tour”! Garis notes that it comes from down the east side of the main hall and did not hear anything more. Allowishis, checks the chest of drawers and finds that the bottom one is locked shut. The smaller drawers are holding platinum coins! Allowishis attempts to pick the lock open rolling a 23% needing a 47%, she was successful in doing so after 5 minutes of work! Rolling a 46% needing ≤ 52%, Allowishis noticed a trap in time as she begin to open the drawer, before it is set off! It was an illusion that momentarily made her think she did not pick the lock open but she saw through it and opens the drawer to see a thick book inside. Flipping through it, she can tell it is written in magical rune script! She hands the book to Xilicien. Camlin meanwhile slides the other south door in the west hallway open to see: This chamber is elegantly furnished with a bed (the frame is inlaid with shells and ornamental stones), a small table, several silken cushions and two scroll paintings. On a stand resting near the door to the outside in the south east corner,  is a large gold-bound book. Camlin searches the room for a hidden door or item but did not find anything. With Sheila trailing Garis down the main east going hallway,  a web spell is suddenly shot off by Kwairno as they passed a midway point in the hall she was spying from. This traps Garis after a failed saving throw vs spell, rolling 3 needing ≥ 13. However, Sheila made her save, rolling a 20 needing ≥ 11, and is able to move at half speed to get out of the webbing. Lord Cromther, lights up the webbing, which burns away, however, Garis took 15 damage from the flaming webs! Sheila, casts a Cure Serious Wounds spell upon  Garis, healing back more than needed of 16 hit points. Fortunately, the hallway itself did not catch on fire. Again a voice is heard saying, “Again I ask you to kindly leave here, immediately”! Allowishis, continues to check the large gold-bound book, she notes a platinum key with an orange tassle, resting at the book’s side. Allowishis, looks for a trap on the book rolling a 1% needing a ≤ 40%, she did not find one as it was magical in nature and not an illusion but a fire trap, which burns her for 20 damage! Sheila uses a Cure Light Wounds, healing 7 hit points then a Cure Serious Wounds spell healing 10 more on Allowishis. Garis proceeds to head back down the hall, this time probing along with his sword. This second attempt is greeting with a Stinking Cloud spell that was cast by Horan! Allowishis, Camlin and Sheila made their saving throws vs spell while Garis, and Lord Cromther failed the save, causing them to be helpless and reeling and unable to attack for 3 rounds! Sheila is the first to see around the hallway opening at the far end of the east going hallway to see a bugbear standing in the way. The Bugbear guard says, “I warned you all to leave here”! Sheila says, “We don’t take orders very well”. Horan says, “What is it you want here”?! Sheila says, “We have learned that many here serve the Demon Sertrous, We are planning to put a stop to his plans". Horan says, “Sertrous, promises us a rule over all by him alone and a prosperous rule at that. Look how this once magnificent city is being restored and prosperity brought to the Isle of Dread”! Sheila says, “He will give you nothing but pain suffering death and destruction". Horan says, “To those whom oppose him yes”. Sheila says, “Sertrous is not a benevolent god, he wants to destroy the world”. Horan laughs, “Destroy?! Are you mad”?! Camlin says, “Yes, a bit. We are all mad at that snake ass god”. Sheila says, “I am wise to the truth of his intentions”. Horan then turns himself invisible and says, “I know not where you learned of this turn of events here! I cannot let you interfere with our plans”! Sheila says, “ You are afraid of the truth, if you knew more about him, you would know that his words are lies, he deceives those foolish enough to believe him”. Initiative Rolls are made and Combat Round #01 Begins: Xilicien, stays back away from the stinking cloud in the hallway. Camlin, fires an arrow from the magical +1 Foeseeker long bow dealing 9 damage to the Bugbear guard! Horan, casts the Hold Person spell upon Camlin, who fails his saving throw vs spell rolling a 2 needing ≥ 13, so he is held in place for 24 rounds!
Allowishis, wearing the magical gauntlets of fencing, attacks the Bugbear guard from behind with her pixie sword dealing 18 damage! Bugbear guard, rolls a critical hit of 20, slashing Sheila with the fauchard for it maximum damage of 6 hit points! Sheila, casts the Hold Person spell upon the Bugbear guard, whom fails his saving throw vs spell, rolling a 12 needing ≥ 16. He is held in place for 11 rounds! Regnom stays back, away from the stinking cloud!   Combat Round #02: Horan, casts the charm person upon Sheila, whom rolls a successful saving throw vs spell, rolling a 16 needing ≥ 11, and shakes off the spells effects! Allowishis, coup de graces the Bugbear guard, defeating him! Sheila, casts the Sanctuary spell upon herself, lasting for 9 rounds. Her opponents must now make a saving throw vs spell in order to attack her. If the saving throw is failed, the opponent will attack another, losing track of and totally ignoring the warded Sheila, protected by the spell. During the duration of the spell Sheila cannot take offensive action, but can cast non-attack spells. Regnom, continues to stay away from the stinking cloud!   Combat Round #03: Lord Cromther, makes his saving throw against the stinking cloud, rolling 18 needing ≥ 8, so he is no longer affected! Xilicien, stays back from the stinking cloud! Garis, rolls his saving throw against the stinking cloud, rolling a 3 needing ≥ 12 he fails and continues to be helpless and retch! Horan, casts the Cone of Cold spell, sending out a 12 ft wide and up to 60 ft long cone of cold that drains heat and causes 48 hit points of damage! Horan does not know that Allowishis is within the cone due to her being invisible, so believes Sheila is the target. Horan rolls a save against Allowishis’s Sanctuary spell, rolling a 6 needing ≥ 8, he fails the save, so would attack someone else. (I think it was Sheila? Who did not get damage taken off her I think, as she didn’t make a saving throw for half damage! I don’t know what appears to have been confusing me here!) Because Allowishis was within the cone of cold she took the full 48 damage after a failed saving throw, rolling a 6 needing ≥ 11, for -21 hit points, defeating her! Because Horan cast the Cone of Cold spell, he became visible again, perhaps foiling his plan to cast a forget spell on the party! Sheila, runs over to Horan and pounds him with the magical +2 footman’s mace dealing 7 damage! Regnom, stays back, away from the stinking cloud!   Combat Round #04: Garis, rolls a saving throw against the Stinking Cloud spell, rolling a 7 needing ≥ 12, he fails and continues to suffer its effects upon him! Horan, casts a Slow spell upon Sheila, who rolls a 13 needing ≥ 11,  on the saving throw, shaking off it’s effect upon her! Sheila, missed Horan with the +2 footman’s mace! Lord Cromther, saves against the Stinking Cloud, rolling a 14 needing ≥ 11 Regnom, continues to stay away from the Stinking Cloud!   Combat Round #05: Xilicien,  cast  the Dispel Magic spell upon the Stinking Cloud and he needs a 26% or less to dispel it. Xilicien rolls a 16%, and the stinking cloud dissipates! Horan, casts the Mirror Image spell upon himself, which results in three shimmering, blurry and distorted images of him to now appear! Sheila, quickly decides which of the images to strike with her +2 footman’s mace and she makes the right choice, pounding Horan for 9 damage and defeating him! End of Combat! During the combat Kwairno, had snuck out of the house, easily outrunning the yuan-ti abomination, watching outside on the front steps, disappearing into a crowd gathered along the street near the compound. Room description: This large elegant hall ends in a small L-shaped platform, four inches higher than the rest of the floor. The walls are painted in pastel colors with scenes of jungle landscapes and palaces under siege. Rice straw mats line the walls. On the platform is a flat cushion, an inkpot, 2 brushes, an inking stone, and a scroll. Sheila, checks out the scroll, which turns out to be blank, but could fetch 100 gold pieces if sold. Garis, does some searching around in the room, but could not find a secret door or hidden item. Lord Cromther, uses his Lay on Hand ability to restore 14 hit points to himself. Sheila, also could not find a secret door or hidden item in the room. Camlin, searches and finds a secret door on the south wall of the room on it’s west side! Xilicien also searches but did not find anything. This full search of the room took an hour. Garis, checks for a trap on the secret door, rolling a 77% needing ≤ 35%, he did not find one! Camlin, proceeds to open the door and sees inside: Hidden behind secret sliding panels, this small room seems to provide a place of peace and meditation. A low bench runs the length of one wall. Under it is a bucket full of water and a wooden dipper. Hanging on the other wall is a scroll painting. Under the painting, resting on the floor, is a scroll case. Garis checks for a trap along the floor, rolling a 63% needing ≤ 35%, he did not find one! Garis, Camlin and Sheila, searched the secret study for a secret door or hidden item and did not find anything. Sheila, casts the Detect Magic orison and looks around the secret study to see that the scroll painting on the wall emanates a magical aura! Sheila, looks for a keyhole in the painting, to see if the platinum tassel key would fit somewhere but no. Sheila, makes a saving throw versus spell due to examining the scroll painting, rolling a 7 needing ≥ 11, she fails the save! Sheila has a glorious vision, she sees herself not only ruling over all of the Forbidden City above and below but the whole of the Isle of Dread as her domain, and sees this as the righteous truth! She fully believes the event will come to pass! Sheila goes back over to Horan to loot his body…   And that concludes today’s Adventure Gaming Session!
