Tinted Lighting?

I'm running a MongTraveller space trader campaign with some friends while simultaneously learning how to GM space-centric games. Needless to say, it's a hell of a long-shot from cozy little D&D adventures which are contained within small areas and full of less relative abnormality. I was wondering about lighting, since the trader crew is going to be visiting a backwater little desert planet orbiting a red sun. Does anyone know any little tricks possible to "tint" the entire area of a map to a specific shade or color of lighting? Red hue is fine now, since it's just a grey-sand desert with red washover, but when they find blue or white dwarf star systems, I wanna really hit that theme home, yknow? Give 'em some razzle dazzle. So far I've tried using object tints with area of effect to essentially flood entire areas into one color, but I'm pretty sure tokens are unaffected. Can I get any input on this here?
You can either make a partially transparent PNG with a red hue and stretch it over your map or use a red aura on an object.
sounds like a good idea. but the problem would be that it only applies to tokens if I put it over everything else, effectively masking my token-grabbing tools, right? Now i'm wishing my PC didn't have the weirdest issue with rendering transparency. (it defaults to solid white no matter what program I use) On that first note, though, is there a way to sorta "lock" items up so I can grab stuff without grabbing the transparency on top?

There is not. Multiple layers is being discussed in the suggestion forum, which would slow this. If you had a mentor subscription, I could help you write an API script that tints all the tokens on a page to the background color very easily. That would let you group tint tokens on add by page automaticallyq. :)

that's the plan, Gold, although the effect is a bit less fun when, say, the gang enters a research lab or their parked starship and still have the tints over them.

(It would be more complicated, but you could probably handle that in a script as well..)
