General Discussions and Shenanigans Thread #10

Ok, I now have looked over encounters 11-20 in the Tamoachan module and they are ready to go now!
I have about 14 more encounters to comb over in the "Tamoachan" module and I have also screen captured all of the artwork from the AD&D module. Up next, I need to crop those screen captures, into individual images for player handouts. The 5E module does have new images as well.
Going to be a fun module
Ok, I went through a few more encounters and monsters in the "Hidden Shrine of Tamoachan" module and made any tweaks. I have now, copy / pasted most of any dice roll macros that are not a spell or weapons macro, into the "Tamoachan" game. I might start editing down the "Chat Archives" for both of last weekend's games tonight and get them ready for typing up the weekly summaries from. Kurtis S. , is our new player, so Welcome him aboard! He is new to AD&D so, please help him along!
Welcome to the game Kurtis Glad your joining us Hope you like it and stay awhile
Ok, here is a blurb from the Magic-User's "Invisibility 10 ft radius" spell: " Those affected by it cannot see each other. Those affected creatures which attack negate the invisibility only with respect to themselves, not others made invisible, unless the spell recipient causes the spell to be broken. [2E DM Option: If anyone attacks the spell is broken for all.]" So, let us just say that Camlin and the rest of you staying invisible inside Xilicien's spell, during the initial combat to get into Horan's compound was a gift from one of your gods!
I will get the 05/23/2021 game session story chapter archive and the weekly summary posted up as well, sometime today. We will resume playing on June 6th, 2021 at 8pm eastern daylight time!
CYA There
Progress on the "C1: Hidden Shrine of Tamoachan" Module: I am on encounter 33 right now, adding in any additional usable information from the 4th edition version of the adventure module. Once that is done I will see what "Return to Tamoanchan" has to offer. Yes, it was originally spelled Tamoanchan. There appears to be more to the underground complex, which would likely place it off the Forbidden City map.  So, I might not include it, however I would add in any new parts and encounter information to the upper levels. That or we, just visualize it as still being accessible on Taboo Island where the Forbidden City (of Thracia) is located. There was no digital maps provided with "Return to Tamoanchan" for the new locations. So I will likely have to enlarge them, after I scan the pages. Which means they will likely be blurry. If it turns out unusable, I may just do the new additions in Dungeonographer.
Your best bet is probably to go ahead and make them in Dungeonagrapher cause trying to enlarge them and make them look good can be a hassle
I'll ask of they have digital maps when I tell them what to do regarding the banged up books! I have #107 and #108 of 200. One came more banged up than the other with a crease on the back cover of one. I wrote to them about it and they said I was the first one so far that reported any damage to the books! They are actually a set of 3 books: the adventure module, a monster book and a book of Pre-Generated characters. Both had a sticker with the number of the book and a certificate for each book. The bottom of each certificate came banged up. I had intended to give a set to the step-nephew. They offered me the option of a Tamoanchan jersey or a new book. The author is releasing a 5th edition version next year, maybe he'll expand it farther.
Did you take the offer for a new book?
Actually I am not sure yet, as of course it will likely not be signed and numbered.  Maybe I will just get the jersey and the 5th edition version next year if farther improvements and additions are made. I was actually not going to get it thinking there would eventually be a 5th edition one, but with it being the next module, I went ahead and got two sets of the books.
Ah well, maybe give your nephew the ones in best shape, keep the others and buy the 5e one next year, too bad guess they did not take care of the books in shipping or they were all damaged and you were the first to call them but not the only one  will it be ready by the time we are ready to get into it?I just hope Kurtis has the chance to learn more about how to play before hes tossed into too many killer modules hehe have heard from many of facebook the old school modules are killers hehe the later edition modules just are not that unforgiving with mistakes and bad choices
I should have the game ready, sooner than later if I don't bother with the expanded stuff in the "Return to Tamoanchan" module. That is to say to the extent of making maps for the new encounters. I will at least go over each encounter in "Return to ...", just like I am currently doing with the 4E module and add anything new accordingly. Hopefully in the week leading up to starting Toamoa(n)chan, all I will need to do is transfer over the character sheets and copy/paste their dice and spell macros over into the new game. I have about 11 more encounters to look at from the 4E version to see what can be added. I will not use 4E damage rolls as they are way higher in value. There are some cases with different monsters and some monsters gain abilities. The abilities I will add in but may not use or roll on to see if used.  Being the first run through of the module there is bound to be some glitches and I may be looking over the descriptions to see what is going on and what to post as some descriptions may need edited to fit what you actually see. Right now it is like I have blocks of text from each edition pasted into the online 5e version. At a later time I may streamline it and even make the text available for people to use or offer others to DM their own game from what I have by making them a DM in a copied game.
Update on Tamoa(n)chan module: I flipped through the "Return to Tamoanchan" module last night. The maps which look like they may have been done in Campaign Cartographer 3+, are to fuzzy low resolution to even bother to scan and blow up for Roll20. Descriptions are actually minimal so it doesn't appear I'll be adding more descriptive text. There are no digital files of the maps. This version of Tamoanchan has the place looking like caves and there is one expanded part that uses hexes. There are parts that are mazes. Maybe I can redo those in Dungeonographer.  I can't really recommend getting this at all... I spent $58 for 2 sets, (one for the step-nephew), and it feels like a waste in spite of the added monster and NPC/Pre-Gens books. They say this version is harder and deadlier than the original. Plus the books arrived damage. Epic Quest saying I am the first to report and send pictures of the damage.  Epic Quest said there is a D&D 5th edition version coming next year. I sure hope they make some massive improvements to it all. Really, they should work with Goodman games to update it because this version being a "Return to..." one doesn't really fit as being something that occurs years later after the original module setting but like a rewrite. By the way they offered me to eat it and take a Tamoa(n)chan jersey or a new book, when there are supposed to be only 200 copies with a numbered sticker inside and a certificate signed by the original author!
Well, I would not send them any more money, nothing, no matter how much  you want it, dont buy anything more from them
Roxxifarius's new character is an Amazon Fighter named Loreesa, which we worked on a bit tonight!
Tonight, I moved over the spell handout and player handout sheets from this game into the Tamoachan module. I might have another look at, "The Return to Tamoanchan" module and see what to do regarding adding new encounters. That would involve making maps in dungeonographer. I know there were some new monsters in the 4E version I haven't added to the module yet.  They may not get used or I may roll on it or it may depend on how well or not you all are doing. I am about 1/3 done with typing up last Sundays' game summary.

Here is what is left to explore in the Forbidden City, here are the locations either not visited yet or passed over: North: Deathwalker's Compound: You found another way down into the lower parts of Thracia. You could deal with the evilly tainted leaders and their henchmen. North West Quadrant: Looks like everything was explored, however you could go to T7: Temple with Phase Spiders. In Area T6 you could deal with the Bugbear Grunts there. You have defeated their leader and shaman. T1 has a small army of bugbears and some gnolls. This is the main entrance to the lower parts of the city.  West: You could pay a visit to the Mongrelmen at Area D. See if they are friendly or not. South West Quadrant: Area N8 is the Tamoachan Temple, which will likely open with a chase. South: Area E is visible as a huge tree whose height is most of the way up the cliff. It is on the shoreline that rims the crater, now across the lake from where depicted on the original map. South East: Completely explored this section. East: Area B is a lianas vines covered cliff area yet unexplored. Area F is the primitive Bullywug frogmen tribe area, which is currently being looked at. On the other side of the swampy area is an unexplored Cave Entrance, (I need to finish populating it yet). North East: Area S2 is the "Tomb of the Mummy Bride" module, which will be played after the "Caverns of Thracia". I did pledge to get the updated DCC version on Kickstarter. Bullywug Frogmen mound, has not been explored. You need to figure out how to deal with the wooden log palisade, which leans outward at an angle with sharp pointed tips on the end of each log post.  Miscellaneous: I will likely stage a raid on the Mongrelmen compound, especially now that Horan has been defeated. This would basically be an encounter from the original module, changed up a bit, mainly in location. After going through "Hidden Shrine of Tamoa(n)chan". I may get the "Alien" game and we would play that as I work to make Dungeonographer maps for "Caverns of Thracia" and set it all up.  As mentioned in the previous post I made, I might still be adding encounters to Tamoa(n)chan or just leave it as it is now.
Tonight's session was a short one lasting until 9:35 pm eastern, with 3 players left and so we resume on 07/11/2021 since next week is the 4th of July and fireworks and grilling food! Going into the Tamoachan module, the Magic-User will now have access to the 1E Unearthed Arcana Cantrips. All of them have now been entered into the DM's journal of that game and Xilicien has the Macro Sub-Menus all ready to go.&nbsp; Do any of you know if addition AD&amp;D cantrips appear anywhere else like Dungeon magazine? Also, not sure if Cleric Orisons ever appeared in AD&amp;D, did they? If so where do I find them? I guess next up I will look at new encounters for Tamoachan. At the least plug in new monsters that appear in the 4E version of the module, in case I decide to use them. Other than that, "Hidden Shrine of Tamoachan" is ready to go and I just need to transfer over the character sheets and redo the sub-menus to have the macro calls changed up to how they appear in the DM journal. Wayne, you can either, just re-roll new stats for a new thief and re-use the sheet or make a whole new character. Then we will bring the new character in as a curious person on the street willing to help when he sees what is going on. There are currently 4 Kickstarters I am looking at pledging to. Bruce Heard's, "Calidar" setting focusing on the elves. Rob Kuntz's "Wizard of Oz", Goodman Games, "Dying Earth" and the Season 1 Blu-ray for the 1st season of the "Abbott and Costello" TV show. Since the TV show and "Wizard of Oz" thankfully doesn't have exclusives I may just get the other two. For the Steam sale I am getting "Victor Vran" and "Dead by Daylight". You can find me on Steam here:&nbsp; <a href="https://s.team/p/fvj-pmtv/rkfcmbnm" rel="nofollow">https://s.team/p/fvj-pmtv/rkfcmbnm</a>
More cantrips may be found in Dragon magazine, not sure about orisons, think they were new to v3.x but pretty sure there were more cantrips made I have the pdfs of Dragon and Dungeon up to the last ones for v3.x&nbsp; &nbsp;
Ok, I figured there could be some more in Dragon. I just made new Cleric / Druid Orisons, based upon the 3E versions (12 of them). Since they were like 1st level spells I tamed them all down to be within Magic-User AD&amp;D Cantrip ranges. That said, a couple are still really too powerful in that they grant someone a +1 on rolls for a duration, so I made it for a single roll only. That said, I may not include those types for use. I guess, I will have it like the Magic-user in that the cleric gets 4 orisons per day, using one, first level spell slot. What I could do for those ones that grant a +1 to a roll is say, they would simply take 1 full first level spell slot.
Here is Kickstarter for a compilation Hardcover of the "Back to BasiX" Fanzine, which compiles the first ten issues! <a href="https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/throwigames/back-to-basix-fanzine-hardcover-compilation-issues-1-10" rel="nofollow">https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/throwigames/back-to-basix-fanzine-hardcover-compilation-issues-1-10</a>
I updated the Player Characters / NPCs / Deceased Characters / Deities Worshipped List. <a href="https://app.roll20.net/forum/post/7423760/player-characters-slash-npcs-slash-deities-listing/?pageforid=7423760#post-7423760" rel="nofollow">https://app.roll20.net/forum/post/7423760/player-characters-slash-npcs-slash-deities-listing/?pageforid=7423760#post-7423760</a>
I finished one add-on map for "Hidden Shrine of Tamoa(n)chan". Just need to add a connecting passage, of which the map provided does not even show! I now need to make sheets and tokens for the occupants of that map. Then I will make a map for another location and maybe try doing another map location which is hex-based.
New AC/DC Beer here! <a href="https://knucklebonz.com/tag/acdc-beer/" rel="nofollow">https://knucklebonz.com/tag/acdc-beer/</a>
I am thinking of using hit locations from&nbsp; the Original D&amp;D Supplement 2: Blackmoor book, starting on p. 7 for hit locations! If a humanoid with a total of 100 possible hit points is attacked, the head can withstand up to 15 points of damage, the chest 80, the abdomen 60,&nbsp; each arm 20, and so on; however, if the head receives 15 points of damage (100% of the possible total) death occurs immediately.
I would be fine with that table

Ok, to get this List and the character sheets up to date here is the listing showing all Magical Items, Weapons and Armor the Characters have. Who has the +1 Two-handed Sword which is +2 vs Humans (not other humanoids) and the Figurine of Wonderous Power (Two Lions)??? [List Updated 08/03/2021 3:38 pm ;&nbsp; Handout Editable by Everyone: ] Camlin (Half-Elf Ranger): Mithral Chain Mail +1 Arrows +3 (15) Calenyanda (+1 Long Sword) . This +1 weapon is fashioned from steel with a light green sheen. It is nearly indestructible and razor sharp. Value: 5,000 GP In addition to its magical enhancement, the bearer of the weapon gains an additional +1 to damage on each consecutive strike (up to +5) with the weapon against the same target. Any miss resets the cumulative effect. Berenion Gilithil, relates that this elven blade was also the work of the smith Tincdan. Centuries after his death,the queen of the elves Eruanniel gave the blade to the King of Cadarn, Aelhaeran I. The blade was passed down through the line of human kings for ages until it was gifted to a prominent hero Sir Vorath, Knight of Belinos, and then passed down through that order for centuries as well. With the downfall of the order of dragon riders the sword was lost and was recovered by Glidas Trahern, on one of his adventures. It was his wish that it be returned to the order when their honor was restored. The elven name translates simply as “green blade.” Foseeker Longbow +1 (4,500 GP Value) &nbsp; (6ft) (2 lbs): &nbsp;(Previously Coal's) The bow has a strange magical property that protects the allies of the bearer.&nbsp; The bow either strikes the designated target or misses.&nbsp; There is no need to resolve firing into melee.&nbsp; In addition, the target may not get the bonus for soft cover &nbsp; provided by any other combatant. Coal Blackstone&nbsp; tells the story he was told by Johnny Bowman: Berenion, an elf from Caer Brennau once said, “This bow was a gift to Gildas by my Uncle Taurfaer, a ranger of great renown.&nbsp; He fashioned it himself from ebony and boxwood that was then alchemically treated by the elven Druid Meluieth." "The string is the sinew of a great two-headed troll my uncle slew in his youth.&nbsp;&nbsp; It is said that it is so resilient that it never needs to be unstrung.&nbsp;&nbsp; Fear not if you fire a missile from this bow into a chaotic melee.&nbsp; It has never been known to strike an ally of the wielder.” Boots of the Formene (4 lbs) –&nbsp; This pair of boots connects the wearer with the Formene allows the wearer to: • Navigate the Formene like an elf, by following&nbsp; hidden signs to reach their destination and&nbsp; avoid known pitfalls, • Avoid cave-ins through seismic warnings passed&nbsp; through the soles of the boots, and • Derive nutrition from the fungus, animals, and&nbsp; plants of the Formene without vitamin issues. Cloak of the Formene (3 lbs) – &nbsp;This cloak envelopes the&nbsp; wearer in a shroud of protection: • Providing protection from air quality issues, &nbsp; including toxins in the air, lack of oxygen, and&nbsp; breathing underwater. The hood of the cloak has &nbsp; a face mask that protects the wearer from such threats. • Suppressing all fires within 20’ of the wearer to &nbsp; protect them from air depletion, toxins, etc. • Reducing damage from flash floods. In addition &nbsp; to allowing underwater breathing, the cloak&nbsp; gives the wearer protection from damage &nbsp; that might be taken from sudden flooding of&nbsp; caverns.&nbsp; (save vs. Paralyze at + 4 to mitigate&nbsp; damage; the saves are for half vs. no damage, &nbsp; not full vs. half damage) Ring of Elvenkind –&nbsp; This ring grants the wearer a&nbsp; connection with nature. This allows the wearer to: • Communicate via a form of telepathy with &nbsp; any willing intelligent being in line of sight,&nbsp; including strangers that want to communicate &nbsp; but have no common language or no language&nbsp; at all. • Maintain a sense of time. The wearer is in tune &nbsp; with the sunrise and sunset on the surface. • See in the complete darkness of the Formene&nbsp; (Infra-vision 60’). Garis Newdom (Half-Elf Thief): Currently None Leera Stonefist (Fighter): Amulet of Protection +3&nbsp; This amulet in the form of a distorted&nbsp; boar's head on a fine gold chain has been specially enchanted by KalnaKaa. It has the&nbsp; properties of a ring of protection +3 but also protects any lycanthrope wearing it&nbsp; from the effects of wolfsbane. Armor Class improves by +3 and adds +3 to saving throws The&nbsp; magical properties of an amulet of protection are cumulative with all other magical items of protection except as follows: 1. The amulet does not add to armor value if magical armor is worn, although it does add to saving throw die rolls. 2. More than 1 amulet of protection operating on the same person, or in the same area, do not combine protection; only one — the strongest, if applicable — will function, so a pair of +2 protection rings are still only +2. Gauntlets of Fencing: &nbsp;(gives +3 on To Hit and Damage to when using bladed melee weapons) Ring of invisibility :&nbsp; The wearer of an invisibility ring is able to become&nbsp;invisible at will, instantly.&nbsp;This non-visible state is exactly the same as the magic-user&nbsp; invisibility spell (q.v.), except that 10% of these rings also have inaudibility&nbsp; as well, making the wearer absolutely silent. If the wearer wishes to speak, he&nbsp;or she breaks all silence features in order to do so. Lord Cromther (Paladin Knight): Shield, Large +1: &nbsp;bulky ; 10 lbs Long Sword +1 / +3 Vs Regenerating Monsters Gloves of Arrow Snaring:&nbsp; Once snugly worn, these gloves seem to meld with the hands, becoming almost invisible. Twice per day, the wearer can act as if he had the snatch arrows ability even if he does not meet the prerequisites for it. Both gloves must be worn for the magic to be effective. At least one hand must be free to take advantage of the magic. Wearer Rolls a Save vs Petrification, a success means the arrow is snatched! Faint abjuration; CL 3rd; Price 4,000 gp. The cube has 36 charges, and each day this energy is restored. How about the fencing gloves going to Leera?
Ok, I put it into her Long Sword macro so she now has +3 on To Hits and Damage. For Camlin I added the Arrow Recovery macro for the +3 arrows....When fireing the Foeseeker bow, just plug the value into macro and let us now the arrow was a +3 one you used, Buddy.
Ok, to help you all along here due to the silence aside of Roxxifarius. How about Camlin give the Calenyanda +1 long sword to Leera, while he takes the +1/+2 vs Humans great two-handed sword? Since Roxxifarius was moving the two lions from the figurine around perhaps Leera should get the figurine? If Twitch's Vegan Vixen comes in to play I will give her Sheila's +2 mace and regular platemail armor. I have the game open for a new player and mentioned the party needs a thief.

Ok, Buddy said he will take the +1/+2 Vs Humans Two-Handed sword and Leera now has the +1 Calenyanda long sword. I have the macros already set up. I am a bit confused with Leera on the combined magical effects of the Gauntlets of Fencing and Calenyanda. Do you stack it so that the To Hit is a +4 and initial damage is +4 or is it simply maxed out at +3 To Hit and the Damage is initially +3 while increasing to +5 on consecutive hits?
I would say its +3 and increases to +5 on consecutive hits
I asked the same thing on Dragonsfoot and so far the 3 posts I got all say that it gets stacked. If the items were of similar magics then that is when they don't get stacked, like if you had two rings of protection and one was +1 and the other +3, you only get +3. Here is one response: " Yup. Her first hit would be at +4 (+1 from sword, +3 from gauntlets), to hit and to damage, maxing out at +8 (+3 from gauntlets, +5 from sword). AND THAT IS BEFORE You add in strength, and potentially being specialized!" So ok, while magic items generally max out at +5, they apparently get stacked like that when they are different items with different uses, unless like the rings of protection above. The Macro looks like this then: Name: TH-SwordLong-Calenyanda+1-Leera &amp;{template:2Edefault}{{name= @{selected|character_name} the @{selected|class}, Using the Magical Gauntlets of Fencing (+3) Attacks with the +1 CALENYANDA LONG SWORD (3.5 ft) at @{target|token_name}!}}{{desc= Strike Hits an AC of ThAC0} - (1d20 +3 +1 @{selected|strengthhit}) For strengthdmg} S/M or strengthdmg} L HP Slashing Damage! You gain an additional +1 to damage on each consecutive strike (up to +5) against the same target.&nbsp; Any miss resets the cumulative effect. 3 attacks / 2 rounds.}}
"Psycho Goreman" is on sale on Vudu for $9.99 and was even recommended by Luke Gygax! I have the collector's Hunky Boy Edition blu-ray with the soundtrack! <a href="https://www.vudu.com/content/movies/details/PG-Psycho-Goreman/1599883" rel="nofollow">https://www.vudu.com/content/movies/details/PG-Psycho-Goreman/1599883</a> As to "C1: Hidden Shrine of Tomoa(n)chan", it is ready to go as is, anything thing else added from 4th edition new monsters and the new monsters from "Return to Tamoanchan" isn't really needed. I could just add new passages with new rooms to better accommodate the new monster or just switch out in some cases, to expand it some more though. I did add two new locations and they have new monsters, you just have to find them.
Ok, tonight's game has been called off, Roxxifarius and I waited until 9:05 pm eastern time, while Buddy would have came on if anymore showed up. We never heard from Cromth or Kurtis. Had they said something sooner I would have been able to call the game off before game time! So we try again next Sunday the 22nd. I will likely invite 3 more players into the game as 3 of you have work schedules at game time now. I can't bump up the start time because Devin then might not be able to stay long and previous experiences with doing so only resulted in players coming in later and later.
A Former game player&nbsp; Ullek H. &nbsp;is going to be rejoining the game. He has a Thief sheet and will maybe use that. Christopher L. &nbsp;, I can come on basically any time after 7 - 7:30 pm to help you get a character made, Please post something to let me know when you can come on to do so and to let us know you are still around!
Ok, Next Game Session which should start on September 5th will have the Chat Archive and Weekly Gaming Summary sent to players via their E-mail Addresses, due to starting a new adventure with "C1: Hidden Shrine of Tamoachan". So, you will not see any more of those updates, unless the party wants to explore the opened door/portal in The Needle Obelisk or head to the Pan Lung cave after they hopefully, get out of the Hidden Shrine! So to those that are here reading the game, you will need to send me your E-mails address if you wish to continue to read the adventures, though I will continue to post adventure updates in the threads for this one only now.&nbsp;

Ok, For tonight's session here are the adventurers options on what to do next: 1) Explore the Pan Lung's Lair on the peninsula of Taboo Island. 2) Explore what is beyond the now opened portal of the Needle Obelisk at the center of the Needle Maze. 3) Deal with the Evil Bullywugs in their fortified mound. 4) Deal with the Deathwalker leaders and their henchmen, in north part of city. 5) Deal with the platoon of Guards at the Main Entrance to the Undercity of Thracia (The Forbidden City). Coming up after that: 1) Caverns of Thracia 2) Tomb of the Mummy Bride (Newly released Updated Version: The purple glowing pyramid in the north east section of the Forbidden City)
Opps, I added dealing with the Bullywugs in the fortified mound to the above post!
Ok, the adventurers defeated the regular and large crocodiles guarding the entrance into the Pan Lung Lair tonight!
Thats good, now we just need to deal with how ever many bullywugs there are or will be coming to help

I might be bumping the next game from the 30th to Feb. 6th because both my Mom and her BF has the COVID-19 virus! I have not touched the laptop since knowing, (using my iPad), because her boyfriend uses it! Starting tomorrow my Mom is supposed to be no longer contagious. One or all of us catching something while in Las Vegas has been a thing since I started coming here!
Hey Ricky, sorry to hear that.&nbsp; Whatever works is fine.&nbsp; Hope they both recover without any side affects. take care
Hope you all feel better soon, I'm fine with taking care of yourself first, the game can wait.
Actually, I myself am fine, being uninfected. My Mom had a few symptoms, while her boyfriend has no symptoms at all!
I am postponing the next session to February 6th! I have not used the laptop most of this week since isolating!
sounds good. thanks for the update
Ok take care of yourself and stay safe
