3.5e - Two Experienced Players Seeking a Campaign with a Solid GM! RP

Hey all. I've been around Roll20 for about a year or so. I'm not sure how long my buddy has been playing - but he's a walking encyclopedia of all things DnD. We've been in several campaigns together, and are now searching for a new one! I'm good with 3.5 and Pathfinder - not too sure how my buddy feels about Pathfinder, though. Here's a bit about me. None of the stuff below is really a must-have in a campaign. Maybe it can just be used as a guide to see if we'd be the "right fit" for a potential campaign. AVAILABILITY: - For this thread, I'd very much like to start a game as soon as possible. Saturdays and Sundays work great for me until around September, where I'll likely be travelling a bit more on the weekends. Monday - Wednesday is always a safe bet. - We both live in CDT Time Zone. GMT-5. Available for any time of day on the weekends, after 6:30 CDT on the weekdays. ABOUT ME: - Relatively new to D&D and Pathfinder (About a year or so). I'd say that I'm moderate in terms of experience. A good GM would make all the difference. I'm an immersioner / RPer in MMOs, so I have a lot of "experience" with my preferred character's personae. I'm aware of the potential in RP for Meta-gaming, God-Moding, etc., and feel as if I do a very good job at not coming across that way. - I'm over 30, but my inner child pretty much runs the place! :P PREFERRED CHARACTER: - I do love to use a Psionic class. I spent a lot of time preparing a starting a 3.5 and a Pathfinder Psionic, and I'm very pleased with it. It kind of ties into the "personae" that I've been RPing with in the past. Again - not a deal breaker. I've played several classes. - My buddy is also considering a psionic. If we end up going that route, we have two very different characters that compliment each other nicely. Of course, we're aware of the potential for exploits, and we're very against exploiting unclear RAW (e.g.: exploiting the action economy). - I'd be willing to message some proposed character sheets to whomever would like to see them. Obviously, some changes may have to be made depending on the GM's method of character creation / point allotment, and interpretation of the variable rules of the class. - I have a fully-completed Level 1 character sheet for a few classes, and a very detailed backstory for my characters. - I'm not interested in a pre-made backstory (details and such needed in order to fit into the campaign are fine, but no "You're the son of a rich nobleman." "You've been in the guard for 20 years. etc.). Immersion is important to me. Should you allow some of my existing L1 characters, you'd find that Roelon's story is very much within canon, and is very adaptable. I'm fine with some changes for the good of the campaign, but I have a general template that I would like to stick to. PREFERRED PLAYSTYLE: - I'd prefer that the campaign spans multiple sessions. I'm down with one-shots, too. I'd just hope that a GM is willing to put in the effort for an immersive setting. In my experience, not many one-shots get that level of attention. - I'm not sure if playing with a large party is right for me. I've been in a party of 12, and it was a charlie-foxtrot. - Having only played a few games in the past, I'm not sure if these even needs to be said - but I'd prefer an RP-style game. I'd prefer to play with MATURE people. That's a relative term, of course, but it's important. Twenty-somethings and up comes to mind, but I don't want to be so limiting. - I'm ok with homebrew rules - but nothing too crazy. I'd prefer to stick with "normal" stuff. GM: - Immersion! That's a big one for both me and my buddy. Draw us into your world! Make us want to explore / fight / whatever. - Put a little effort into it. I don't really care if you have dynamic lighting or high-res maps, but I'm not really interested in looking at a blank grid / hand drawn stuff (with the roll 20 tools) 90% of the time. (This shouldn't even really need to be said, but sadly, that was the experience I had some time ago.) - Not that knowledgeable? No problem! Like I said before, my buddy is a walking DnD encyclopedia! Anyway - feel free to message me here. I'l make sure I receive email alerts, and should be able to respond quickly. - Thanks! "Roelon Geraux"
Forward Hello everyone. I am Roelon's friend. Just for a bit of a background, on a whim I noticed him looking for a campaign in the LFG section and I made the decision to invite him as the 4th player in the game I was DMing. He ended up being one of the best RPers I ever met. He is superb at narrating his actions and his characters all have well thought out and intriguing backstories. It really is a pleasure playing with him. As for myself, as he has already said in the above post, I am a bit of a know-it-all when it comes to 3.5e material, for better or for worse. I too like games with a heavy RP focus rather than typical hack and slash encounters. I won't put up as good of a show as Jon, but I will do my best to create an interesting character. I won't lie though, I tend to build toward a greater degree of optimization. That being said, I try to keep things fair and balanced. There isn't any fun in vastly outperforming the party and destroying all of the bosses with little effort. I value RP so much more than I do optimizing my power. The feats should come from a well built backstory, not just because they are powerful and optimized. If it doesn't make sense, it shouldn't be taken, simple as that. Most of all, I build to fit in with the group so that everyone can have fun. I am really looking forward to getting to play in a well put-together campaign. They are few and far between, but when a DM does it right, the results are spectacular. Characters As Roelon indicated, I had an interest in running a psionic character as well. We were particularly interested in the dynamic that they would have since Roelon's wilder character has an inherent distrust and hatred of his abilities and is largely untrainted. This would be offset by the more disciplined and developed abilities of my character with the Erudite class who also conflicted on the law and chaos spectrum. Alternatively, I had considered a Nomad Psion that would essentially be a magical item smuggler and the two met by chance in less than spectatular circumstances (such as trouble with the law) and while both would have a similar outlook (chaotic good) on life, the dynamic would be more of a partnership in crime and mutual curiosity about each others powers (would be best done in a low Psionic world). Outside of that, I have plenty of non-psionic characters I would be willing to play if that doesn't take to your liking since Psionics can open up abuse since they are a bit easier to break than non-psionic characters if you don't know what you are doing. These range from a Mystic Ranger who casts arcane spells from her spell slots or a colorful Beguiler who intends to become a Rainbow Servant with her trusty parrot to a master tactician Archivist noble who reveres the Red Knight and, armed with a sword and divine magic, intends to uncover ancient secrets. Closing I am greatly looking forward to hearing back from you.
You both seem like exactly my kind of gamers, and I am running a game with very heavy RP and a focus on immersion, and a long-term story. The issue is that it is not a DND game, but a Sci-Fi dice pool homebrew game. Interested at all?
It might be a bit out of my comfort zone, but I'd like to hear more. Maybe you could post or pm some info?

If that is insufficient information/cannot be arsed to read it, hit me up on skype @ stephen.a.nye1 for more information
I actually did scan it, especially through character creation, but I think I am just a bit to busy to spend the time to learn a brand new system right now. Moreover, I am in the mood for more of a fantasy setting than a futuristic scifi one. Perhaps another time. :)
Understood. Good gaming my friend, and if you ever get back in the modd i assure you the char gen and system learning take like 5 mins
.
