Anyone running or looking to play text only games?

My hearing disability has somewhat gotten worse due to RL stress. Currently, I have trouble following German games ( my native language) in voice, and even with my English being almost as good it's slightly worse there. Additionally, I can't get Skype to work and hardly anyone here seems to use TS. So, I'm wondering if there are people looking for text based games. Either continuosly posting or with scheduled meetings. D&D 3.5, any modern d20 variant, PF, Star Trek, Star Wars, Spy Craft, Gamma World, Talislanta, Savage Worlds (Sundered Skies, probably a few other things) Star Wars, Star Trek, Deadlands (all versions) and probably FATE if the srtting works for me is all stuff I'd play, I'd also GM those except I do Sundered skies only in D&D or PF as it comes more logical to me and I can't get along that well with the FATE rules yet. I'm in Germany, but I'm more available at Australian times (my mornings) and CST. but I can probably fit in other times for playing. I'm less for hack&slash, with exceptions (some well known adventures based on mostly fight are quite fun) but I don't mind if for a while the group is mostly fighting. Fighting with no obvious reason will probably bore me but "you are stuck in this dungeon and need to fight your way out" and "there happen to be lots of bandits here" is often reason enough. Evil campaigns work for me if it's not PvP and makes some sense (as in mad psycho random killer guy makes little sense compared to a vampire who kills who is in his way on the way to becoming king etc). My characters are team players, unless the GM would like to assign a different role to them based on the adventure (as in I'm fine with being the secret traitor if it helps the story). Taking over existing chars where players dropped out may work as well. I tend to follow the story line when I see it, and I'm trying to have my chars act without waiting for the GM to feed me every little bit of info. I don't hog the spotlight. I am trying to avoid metagaming and think I largely succeed. Anything else, ask :-)

Yes Anges, there are text based games. My primary game is full but I'm working on two other settings/systems which wont be ready till after my summer semester. I do plan on running text based one shots soon. One of the settings will be based off of primeval and the other one will be a superhero game. Oh just to mention why I run text games (I get asked alot about it), I have a hearing problem also and I want people that have speach or hearing problems to have games that they can enjoy also.
I will eventuelly have time to watch Primeval :-) Yeah I have a few speech problems, too, I tend to stutter when tired. But, as I thought, not much going on in the area of text games. Maybe someone should make a (likely very small) pool group for such games.
I'm not adverse to pure text games. It actually has advantages in that people tend to consider their words slightly better, which is beneficial for RP. Personally, I am based in the USA, so my time zones are very different from yours. On the other hand, I can actually handle German well enough (just finished translating some Rilke), although my English is better. If we can find a workable timeslot, it could be worth exploring the options. For me, weekday nights are best at the moment, my time, but I realize that's virtually impossible for Europe-based players. I can work with afternoon games (European evening) to a limited extend. Australian times are very difficult, though, and I would probably have to pass on those. One caveat: I have arthritis, so at times (not every game session) my typing will be very slow. It's why I normally prefer to use predominantly text, but with Skype/TS/Ventrillo/etc as a backup.

I live in the USA also (central time) and in my current game, I use the game room as pure game chat and skype is ooc chat. I have one player that has a severe stutter problem and another that has a hearing problem while I have a hearing problem also.

I would consider running a text only game if there is enough interest. It would be interesting to see how much more immersive rp would be using it. I have a campaign world and story arc pretty well fleshed out for a fairly long running weekly thing. Probably level 1-12 or so. I think I would prefer a smaller group, like 4 pc's at most and using the pf or 3.5 rules set limiting races and classes to core books. The game would be more story driven than tactical. New players would be welcome to join. I am in CST and I am thinking after 7pm most evenings or perhaps earlier on a Sun or Mon. So post here if you are interested and let us know your availability, time zone and character preference. Agnes I sent you a pm. Text only
I'm game. I'm based in EST (one hour upwind from Luke), and I would prefer a weekday night. Saturdays are not available and Sundays only rarely. Character preference on my end is pretty flexible. I would say that, to a great extend, it depends on the game world. I enjoy characters that have a skill-based aspect (for instance, I like fighters just fine, but I'd end up with a Lorewarden, in all likely hood). My preference goes out to characters that are aimed at group support or group-oriented tactics - bards, tanks, divine casters, etc. I have had fun with rangers, inquisitors etc as well, though. Last but not least, I would strongly prefer Pathfinder. I'm sure I could get 3.5 to work as well, but I have much less source material for it, and it's too heavily aimed at stacking prestige classes to hold my interest for long; I'm not much interested in min/maxing arms races.

Hey Patrick, I was contacted by someone named Zachery by pm and it looks like it may be best to run this on Monday evening using PF rules. I have a game set up with some maps and things already loaded so we may even be able to get started tomorrow if everyone is game. We could start with pc creation and get the story going. What kind of stat array would players like to use? Point buy ,roll or something different? I have a few ideas if players would like to try something out of the norm. We will use PHB, APG, UM and UC. If its not a game breaker and you would like to try something else run it by me. I dont want any power gaming, min maxing and obscure races just for stat bumps. I am really sick of all that stuff. I hope to make this very story driven.
Monday nights works for me, as does PF of course. I'd like point-buy, since I can come up with no good reason to give one person better stats than another, just because of a randome die roll at character creation. What would the world and the campaign be like, so we can start thinking about background stories?

Here is a Tip for text-based games... sometimes overlooked... You can expand the width of the Chat sidebar. Make it wider than the default, so that longer chat posts will not take too many lines, and you can read more before it starts scrolling.

yup and try to do it all in emotes with inline rolls. It makes it easier to read. That is what I'm requiring my players to do.

If you need an example of what it looks like in my game, let me know and I can pm you a snipet of one of the sessions.
Monday works for me most nights, it's middle of the night for me but I'm a night owl.

Luke, I'm definitely interested in a text-only game.
Hi Brett, Right now we have a pretty full party but it might be better for me to add one more in case someone drops or can't make a game. I will send you an invite tonight. What class you like playing?
