Experienced player looking to end DM burn-out and get back to playing

I apologize in advance for the long post, but I have been DM'ing a D&D 3.5 group for a little over 6 months now and I miss being on the other side of the screen! I've mostly only played D&D 3.5, but I honestly don't mind any system, as long as you don't mind teaching me the ropes, although I usually catch on quickly. I'm willing to try new systems, so feel free to ask me if you have something and you're looking for a player. I enjoy a healthy mix of combat and RP, but if the campaign leads a bit more towards one, I can learn to adjust and be fine with that(: I'm not looking for a short campaign, but rather something long-term( preferably open-world or sandbox style, in order to simply explore and try new things in the systems rather than have a main quest- but again, if there is a single main quest, I can adapt and be fine with that) As you can tell, I'm not too picky in what I'm looking for, but rather just want to play again! I'm a full-time college student, but I usually am free most nights, so being available is no problem. Contact me with possible games and I'll respond quickly! Thank you!
Dragonstar adaption to Pathfinder? its a sci fantasy setting more like a space opera like star wars or mass effect but its fantasy based influenses similair to old Spelljammer but more high tech im looking form players free on Mon and or tues, and man i can tell ya i know about the burn out lol its rough ;)
Hey there Carlos. I'm looking for a similar group myself; mostly a veteran group that is focused on story and a long term campaign. If you like to read, you can see my original post here: https://app.roll20.net/forum/post/1027594/seasoned-player-looking-for-a-long-term-group#post-1028261. Let me know if this is something you'd be interested to be a part of.
Myrkos, can I know a bit more? Th whole setting seems a bit interesting, as I've always been a fan of high-tech RPG"s.
Outlaw, I'm definetly interested, although can I ask what you had in mind?

sure thing i have a link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dragonstar this tells you the basics of whats happeneing its a fun setting though im always looking for players I have been DMing for 11 years as a fulltime DM i prefer story and RP elements backed by combat scenes or intrigue my play style id like to think is a Balanced one if you have any personal or Campaign questions i can fill you or anyone in.
I'm trying to keep an open mind about the whole thing to be honest Carlos. I'm more interested in story than system or even setting. I can work with whatever a good GM wants to run. If I had my choice, I'd like to see a sandbox, Ultimate Campaign/Kingmaker style game that ultimately (no pun intended) includes kingdom management/influence, army combat, and characters being heroes rather than just adventurers. I'm okay with other styles of games though, that's just what I'm feeling like right this moment.
Yeah, thats basically what I'm looking for. I feel like gathering wealth, owning people and parts of the world, etc. Possibly we could join up, iron out the details of what we want and look for a DM together? rather than trying to fit into the mold of a pre-exisiting game?

almost all of my games the Players have increased stats to simulate that they are heroes increased health higher Abilities etc, i use adventures but i mainly use a homebrewed approach to quests and missions but the game is more designed for the purpose of saving the world or Galaxy etc, from the bigger threat
It sounds like it could be interesting Myrkos. I really like increased stat games to show a hero's 'potential'. It not only sets PCs above NPCs in combat, but it also smooths out the risks that are naturally inherent in low level play in D&D, where a single lucky hit from an falchion-wielding orc can one-shot a PC. I've found that around level 6 stats matter less than class abilities/magic items anyways, so it really is just to deal with the low level situations. Later it just winds up being flavor to show how much larger than life your characters are. I took a look at the setting you suggested and it could be okay. It's fundamentally no different than how D&D already works potentially; it just adds a sci-fi spin on how 'planes' work. Rather than planes you have other planets and the like... unless planes also exist? Either way, I could easily see a campaign progressing as normal until moderate level when a certain awareness of a larger universe comes into focus and then leading to all sorts of crazy adventures. The potential would be limitless. I have no strong feelings one way or the other regarding the that system, it'd just depend on the setting.

I always had that problem with the one shot kills then players get depressed or hostile, so i took a few steps to balance out a Hero vs a Commoner. it is a D&D setting just its own spin on things, I personally find the diversity of various planets and races combinations to be crazy when you think of all the possibilities, I'm planning on running a Long Story driven Campaign from 1st to 30th lvl with 10 mythic tier lvls later because i have like 7 acts of various enemies that increase in strength (obviously) though out the levels I've worked hard on the story but i kept a nice guideline and a nonlinear path for the most part.
It could be interesting. It sounds like you're planning on using Pathfinder in conjunction with that system?
yes i am Dragonstar as the setting and Pathfinder as the Rules
Oh man, I just realized I never posted my message. I must have refreshed the page or left it before hitting submit. I do that sometimes, which gets tedious with the long posts I often write, haha. I'm all for it, but my voice alone doesn't really matter. It'd also depend on whether the other players found it interesting and if the timing would work out for everyone. I've played a lot of 3.5 and I've read up on Pathfinder and done some level 1 stuff, but I haven't really delved too deeply into that system. I'm not entirely sure how a lot of the newer stuff works in it. I understand that Mythic is kind of like the old epic levels but different. There's a lot I personally would need to be brought up to speed on, but I'm sure I could handle the transition just fine.

I can help with the bringing up to speed i am fluent in D&D lol ;) if you want add me on Skype: Myrkos39
What kind of stat system would you use for a starting group? What's your ideal party size? In what ways do you facilitate RP from the players? Like, do you provide lots of clues for what direction you want your party to go? Or do you go full sandbox mode and let them decide for themselves? How difficult do you feel the average combat should be? You can answer either with an anecdote or a simple CR system if you use one. What do you expect most of all from your players? How do you handle party conflict? Feel free to answer these in whatever order. I'm sure I'll think of more, but right now I'm a little out of sorts because I'm sleep deprived and it's late, heh.
20pt buy 1=1, 4-5 party, RP is both clues and sandbox elements i find if a party is too lazy or passive i have to provide alot of clues, more active parties can go where ever, difficult should be well maintained there should be easy fight and more harder ones, sometimes strategy is best when other times brute force can do the job, what i expect is nothing, I find playing with various amounts of people, they have their own issues and gifts and its just terrible to expect a player will act a certain way when first starti9ng out or as the game progresses, party conflict should be mediated by both players and GM if two players want to solve a dispute in game or whatever they can id prefer if they help each other rather than destroy each other.
I understand the reason point buy exists, but my personal preference as a player is to roll up my stats. I don't even mind if I wind up with suboptimal stats; I just like the idea that everyone is different. I remember playing back in the day where you rolled your stats per stat block and that's what it was. 3d6 first roll for strength, then dex, etc. If you were lucky, your GM would let you pick your class after you rolled your stats. Sure taught me how to make use of what I had available and to appreciate stats more, haha. I agree mostly with the rest of what you said. I guess I'd like elaboration on the party conflict one, though I guess I didn't make it very clear either. Suppose that two characters have legitimate in game reasons to be at odds with each other. Do you as a GM allow them to fight it out and potentially have one or both die? Do you prevent PvP altogether? Do you try to mediate out of character before it escalates?
id prefer if the party not kill each other they can do a rivalry challenge , i dont think kllling a PC justifies the troubles it causes afterwards, ill mediate yes but if its all in play and story development and it doesnt escalate its fine so long as people dont die lol
I can understand the Ability point rolling system I just find people prefer to pick and choose their stats its a force of habit after playing so many years
What does a rivalry challenge include? I personally think in character conflict can be a good thing so long as both players understand that the conflict exists only in character. I agree that revenge characters and stuff are tedious and can ruin a game, and if conflict is handled poorly it can lead to players quitting games and maybe ending campaigns. Still though, sometimes it can be okay. I'm alright with whatever method though, so long as the rest of the party is okay with it. I assume that the party will be composed of adults. =P
challenge might be like a series of competition like arm wrestling or a game of Pool or chess, see who kills the most guys in the next fight etc or it could just be dropped which would be good too, any sort of competition can solve a dispute but both parties have to agree on it I hate drama in game unless its for Story purposes... yes preferably adults i have yet to play with anyone under 20 except maybe two people
I've asked all I can think of right now (really out of it). Besides, I basically hijacked Carlos' thread at this stage, so I'll back off for now and let him ask whatever he has interest in. I'll be keeping an eye out though and will still pipe in. ;-D
ok cool nice having this chat with you lol get some rest :D
Hey guys, all you have been talking about sounds very interesting. If you are looking for another player, i'd be very interested in that Dragonstar setting. I've played some DnD, not too much. and 2 short campaigns in RL (can't really remember i think shadowrun and fallout?) So i'm still kinda new but I'm a fast learner. Contact me if you need anyone else, sounds like a great setting and a cool way of handling a campaign. Regards me
