Just so you know this will be a LOW MAGIC setting. you have been warned. " In the far distant past Miridia used to be a world run on magic. People and creatures alike passed between the veil into the Dreamscape and back. Peace abounded under the rule of a powerful and noble race of beings. It was at the beginning of the year 3000 during the Festival of Life that world cracked and all were brought low by the horrors that came into being on that day. Those who survived the catastrophe called it The Breaking. No one now knows what exactly happened. but what they do know is that it rent great chasms in the earth and opened up tears in the sky and it not only wiped out the old rulers but corrupted some of the races. Some Gnomes were turned into Goblins, Baltii to Lizardfolk, and Elves to Banshee. They came like a pelage began to spread through the land eventually coming to rest in the dark and dank where no sensible creature dared to dwell, feared and loathed as they were. The events of the first Breaking shook the whole world to its core and for the first time since the Gods brought them into being, the people of Miridia found themselves in a battle for who would take charge of this new world. The War was horrible and bloody, each group rushing to carve themselves a niche. the land was divided each race claiming their individual kingdoms. As the world settled once again, The Breaking became nothing but a distant memory in tales only told by the oldest and wisest. Until the stories of the past decided to come alive once more. the earth cracked and sky once again split in two. a second Breaking had begun. This time the creatures and monsters that spilled forth were more organized. They swept over the land like a conquering army, killing and burning as they went, enslaving all those they did not kill. The Goblins were eager to join this new power, as were the Banshee. The Lizardfolk (now referring to themselves as the Heshen) were divided. some of them joined most of them preferred to stay in their swamps and deserts, a very few stood beside the core races to fight the encroaching tide. The invading forces captured some of the races that had not yet been tainted. they infused them with dark energy to create new creatures. The Wendigo from the Humans, the Trolls from Dwarfs, and the Tiefling from the Aasimar. these new races were feared and hated, not only for their power and ferocity in battle, but for what they represented... a new age. All seemed grim and hope was hard to come by. The Kingdoms were divided and in chaos. It seemed as if this would be the end of the world as they knew it. Until a group of six heroes rose up. they rallied the battle cry and the nations flocked to them. They were the most powerful group of warriors Miridia had seen since the first Breaking. Through much trial, toil and cunning they drove the advancing armies back and sealed many of them away, cutting off the what remained of the invading army from support and leadership. They lead the people together to a hard won triumph. Victory was short lived however as it soon became apparent that whatever had been done caused some unforeseen side effects. magic in the world was fading. those who had possessed it were becoming weaker and those who relied on it were dying. it wasn't long before the only magic that remained was the items and places that had been enchanted long ago with the occasional being who could now do no more than simple parlor tricks. But still, life went on. Many hundreds of years have passed since the Second Breaking, the nations are once again divided with hostilities higher then ever. Lives are short and memories are shorter. and even the tale of heroes have faded into legend with those who tell them unable to agree on the details. It is in this age, the age of division, that you will find yourself. " There are 2 current players and the limitations for classes can be summarized as 'if it can use a spell slot, you can't use it'.
