After a near defeat, the party, with two dead members, retreated from the ice devil and his four bone devil minions at the third floor of Fort Karak. They fled back to Pasamakwa. The party defeat was due to several factors: The party being weakened and drained by a prior tough combat with bone devils and grey render zombies on the second level. The division of the party into three separate fronts by devil teleportation and bad tactical decisions.. The diversion of the party by two goals: fighting and looting the monster guards on earlier levels Going straight for Forest of Spirits and his lieutenants on the top floor The unfamiliarity with the devilish opponents and their immense power. Regardless the remaining three party members and the paladin Nyzhony fled to Pasamakwa. Adwona, thanks to her Barozi Pact, reincarnated as a dire bear which granted her some new powers, lost her a level and greatly hindered her spellcasting ability. Amadou died and, in accordance with his wishes, was cremated to rejoin his ancestors back in the varied lands, mountains and seas of the Overpower. A new member of the party, Dag Hjalmar Agne Carl Hammarskjöld, a Ravenslander cleric devoted to Tika Nahu, the god of campfires, protector of travelers, ran into the fleeing party on the way back to Pasamakwa. In accordance with his beliefs he immediately offered help and healing. In the city, they spent another month, augmenting their magic weapons, sell much of Amadou's equipment and dividing wealth. After these preparations, they returned to Fort Karak. On the way there they fought and defeated a hunting party of frost giants. At the fort they spent their time searching and looting the ruins they had made. Scallapronon spotted a tunnel into a mine below the fortress tower. Torkunde explored this for a while only to discover that the passageways were large and extensive and no monsters were roaming around. Dag then used several of Amadou's scrolls to rebuild the stairs he destroyed. the party started looting the various locked chests and piled treasures left to bribe the devils and undead leaders. Adwona's men sense indicated that there 5 or 6 humanoids on the forth level. The fight was not over.
