Can't "Group" tokens?

I'm trying to make mounted guards for my campaign by using the free horse and free guard tokens but anytime I group two tokens they remain seperate. If you move them after clicking off of the selected group you can move the horse away from the guard, so they're not really "Grouped". I'm also trying to affix the grouped token to the compendium guard sheet in my journal and though grouped "Last token used" always selects either the horse OR the guard. Is there any workaround to this? Theres a fairly high number of mounted guards and I don't want to have to create them on thwe spot or have them glitch off their horses mid-session..
Group works fine for me, are you running any third party extensions, try disabling them and using roll20 again and see if the problem persists, if so, then your problem is in that extension.  I don't understand your second problem.

One quirk with grouped tokens: Once grouped, when you want to move them, click on one first, then click-drag to move the group. If you just try to click-drag immediately on one of the grouped tokens, then only the clicked token will move. Annoying, but you get the hang of it soon enough. I'm also not sure what you mean regarding the second issue.

Grouping images together doesn't make them a single image, and the sheet is looking for a single image for the default token.  In that case, you need to use singular images of mounted guards, or download the tokens you have and assemble the horses and riders into a singular image with an image editor, and then upload the combined images which can then be your mounted guard default tokens.
