My Thoughts

First off let me say how hyped I am to try using this with my group. It seems to handle most everything I want in my games, but is much more accessible then Maptool. I haven't had a chance to play yet, but I did make a campaign from one I had made previously (Since I had all the encounters and artwork already made.) I did notice a few things that I would like to see if I were to have my cake and eat it too: 1) Change the image of the campaign - I noticed that Roll20 picked one of the lesser mobs for the image of my campaign. I'm not sure how this was picked. It was not the first, last, nor was it one I uploaded. I could not see where to change this. 2) Change page image - Like wise, I'm not sure how Roll20 picks the thumbnail for the pages. It would be nice to set this manually. 3) Reposition tool pallet, Chat Windows, and/or be able to pan the map away from the top, left corner - My maps were made to fit the grid spot on. I notices there were a few times where tokens were covered by the pallet and chat window. It would be nice to move these windows or be able to move the map to a more to the right. When panning the map stops moving when the left side of the grid meets the the left border of the window. 4) Change scale of grid - I originally forgot this. I didn't see a way to change the distance for the grid. It defaults to 5 feet which is great for most systems, but some times I put city maps of different scales. 5) Reorder organize handouts - I made handouts with my images scanned of my monster cards. I made them in order of the encounters, but when I logged back in they were all out of order. I couldn't drag and drop them in order or see any way to organize them. It would be nice to able to organize, group them and drop them in folders. 6) Images for GM notes on tokens - I made handouts with my images scanned of my monster cards because there was no way to add images in the GM notes. I like to make screen grabs from the monster builder in DnD Insider. It would be nice to able to drop those into the note section. It seemed like it would work, but it would not save. 7) Make GM Layer Visible - I've seen this posted, but it's definitely one I agree with. Sometimes tokens disappear into the map when faded. It would be nice to either have a toggle or make the GM layer entirely visible when in that edit mode (like tokens fade when in map edit mode, but are visible in others). 8) Add a player visibility toggle in their settings and right click - A little nitpicking since they can just be sent to GM layer, but I can see a few times this could be useful for quick switching without switching layers. 9) Light radius and fog of war - I would like two levels of fog. One would block vision of tokens and map (light radius) the other would block tokens, but not map. I would call the first dark and the other would be fog or low light. Specifically for the dark, it would be nice to set an aura on tokens that would reveal the area for light sources 10) More layers - 3 is sufficient, but it would be nice to have more layers with toggled visibility so you could make all tiles/tokens visible on the layer at once, i.e. a lever that raises bridges. 11) Integrate iPlay4e - This is a great site for an online character sheet. It would be nice if Roll20 could talk to/import the information there, specifically stats and power rolls. I realize that this is specifically a DnD tool, but I can dream. A lot of this is nit picking. Roll20 is awesome site/app and I will definitely be using it in the future. I just thought I would throw my two cents in while it was still in Beta. Great work everyone and thanks! Edit - added grid scale at point 4.

Not to knock your post - All your points made are valid ones. The problem with supplying a laundry list of suggestions like this is that (a) it makes it difficult for anyone to vote/comment on a particular suggestion (Voting on forum threads helps guide the developers to popular suggestions) and (b) A lot of what you have suggested already have their own separate threads in this forum. I'd recommend browsing the Suggestions forum and adding your votes and comment on those threads. It gives you a better chance of your voice being heard.
Thanks. Will do.
Is there any list of suggestions. I've spent a few hours looking for my thoughts, but I'm not sure if some of mine are new or I'm just failing on searching. I don't really want to start a new thread for something that has specifically been started already.
Kristin-- Really, really appreciate your message here. I don't WANT to say that we don't read these walls of texts, because we try. But between e-mail, the message boards, and being linked people's blogs across the internet we do see three of these wish lists a day (and if we're just talking about the open beta, we're now approaching twenty days), which is on top of EVERYTHING ELSE that goes into Roll20. So eyes do tend to glaze over. Right now I'd say we have our next... three moves planned. One should be presented next week. Beyond that... things are open discussions. Ideas that get the most discussion with us are very often ones that look at a singular problem and present solutions. An example: http://community.roll20.net/discussion/420/make-it-easier-to-tell-which-handouts-are-assigned-to-which-players Now, I'm not saying we're going to implement the features as Agemegos as laid them out here. But you can be sure that next time we're looking at Handouts, we're going to look at the comprehensive thread with a half dozen upvotes on the topic to get some ideas. Those threads are helpful. On the flip side, there are now 448 suggestion threads up. Damn near half of all discussion on Roll20 are, "hey I think you should do this". And while the enthusiasm is great, a lot of folks miss the mark. People ask for video game style functions (we want to move more towards being a table whenever possible and have been pretty clear about that), they clamor for integration with the tools they specifically use (I love D&D 4E. It is 90% of my tabletop gaming. I would never advocate to link us to a 4th edition character builder), etc. A lot of the points Erik brings up a solid points. They're mostly focused on making the experience easier, which is good. I am basically talking myself into retooling the suggestions board via moderation right now. Hrm. More on this stream of consciousness later. It's sleepytime. :) -NT
Sorry Nolan, Didn't mean to step on any toes when linking. I thought they were going in a different enough direction where it wouldn't be an issue. I'll edit it out if it's bothersome.
Erik you stepped on ZERO toes. What I was trying to say is that we wouldn't integrate our system into any specifically focused character builder. It's a TOTALLY different direction, and you are MORE than welcome to promote it. But it's not something I see us building into Roll20. That make sense?
Absolutely
