[LFP][Free][Monday][Eastern European Time/GMT+2] Ancient Greek campaign looking for players.

Edited 1636486744
Looking for players to join in a DnD 5e campaign, The Stars Are Falling , set in a high fantasy, pseudo historical version of pre-Persian Wars ancient Greece. The player characters will be chosen champions of one of the Olympian gods, whose mission is to assist the gods in an ongoing war against eldritch gods from another world. We are running a serious, roleplay-heavy campaign with a lot of lore and some combat but we’re friendly to both veterans and newbies alike, LGBT+ friendly and aiming to be a relaxed group. After initial approval, you’ll be able to join in a little interview with the GM, made through Discord, to make sure we’re all compatible and to discuss your character idea and plans, before we make our final decision. As a note, sorry this readup is pretty big, I want my players to have agood understanding of what they're getting into. Requirements for applying: Discord + decent microphone for voice chat; enough free time to attend a 4-hour session every week; an appetite for fun and adventure; a love for roleplay-heavy games with characters that can be adapted to blend in well with the world; a tolerance for memes and low humor, (heroic?) nudity, coarse language and impromptu mini ted talks about mythology; and a passing familiarity with Greek mythology. Races permitted: Light of Olympus is a lore-rich game that relies on Greek mythology and we're trying for immersion. Please take a moment to look over the list of "official" races for the setting. Homebrew races also have racial feats available. If you want to play a race other than the following, and you aren't looking for something outlandish, we can sit down and discuss what could potentially work best as the closest approximation to your preference. Details will be provided after recrtuitment. Demigod (Aasimar), Centaur (homebrew), Dragonborn, Lesser Nymph (Elf, female only), Half-Elf, Human, Minotaur (homebrew), Satyr (homebrew), Siren (homebrew), Tiefling Sources Allowed: The Player's Handbook & Errata Revised Ranger Xanathar's Guide to Everything Mordenkainen's Tome of Foes Volo’s Guide to Monsters Sword Coast Adventurers' Guide Eberron Tasha’s Cauldron of Everything Provisionally: Mythic Odysseys of Theros (we use a few things from it) Provisionally: Margreve Player’s Guide Provisionally: Midgard Heroes Handbook Provisionally: certain FF14 Classes (can be found on 5etools) Homebrew classes and races will not be allowed for this game for balancing and lore purposes, sorry! Homebrew backgrounds, custom rulings and spells may be allowed, if they are balanced and fit the setting; contact your DM to talk about it first, though. Full disclosure: I don't own any of the books available on Roll20 yet so this is kind of a low budget production. I'm sorry for the inconvenience. I will do all I can to help with inputing things and sharing. Important: We’re essentially creating a collaborative ancient Greek epic. Elements of the allowed sources may be disallowed to preserve the integrity of the setting and the immersion of all participants. Please respect this decision. Try to come up with character concepts that fit the setting. Don’t ask to be a nordic dwarf in an ancient Greek setting who worships Thor. The point is to play local people who are close to and chosen by the Greek gods. Some disclaimers: Don’t worry if you don’t know Greek mythology or ancient daily life in detail. This is a game, not an exam. You are free to ask your DM questions OOC or make various checks IC to gain information about various mythological or historical topics. There is no such thing as a stupid question. There is no punishment for asking for information -- unless you’re asking the BBEGs. Then I can’t help you. While this campaign uses consent forms, and the setting has been made more colorful and less rigid than reality, topics like death, slavery, war and its atrocities, crime, sex and nudity are major themes of Greek mythology and history; they’ll come up, through various perspectives. If at any time you feel uncomfortable, please remain civil, request a timeout and sit down and talk with the rest of the group for the best possible resolution. Before the game starts, everyone will be provided with a consent form and a one on one discussion with the GM about personal limits. After every session we’ll be taking a few minutes to debrief and discuss any issues. The views and opinions expressed by characters within the game do not reflect the DM or the players' own beliefs and ethics . Remember that this is fiction. We are here to play a game. There will be conflict and problems and content that might be difficult, but it’s there for your characters to deal with as heroes do, not simply to upset anyone. We are not here to solve real world politics and societal problems. Remember that your group are humans, not mere voices on the other end of Discord. We are not running an explicit 18+ game, but bawdy jokes are part of the Greek culture and some might happen. Nudity is a prevalent theme, again due to the cultural background; you might be naked at times, it’s an inevitability in a setting where people dress in basically bedsheets and have nude statues on display. Please be chill about it, it’s fiction. Sexual themes will get the 'fade to black' treatment and any “creeper” behavior will first get a single warning, then a kick from the game if it continues. Please resist the temptation to re-create hackneyed pop-culture interpretations of Greek mythology for this game. Characters like Percy Jackson, Kratos or Kassandra from Assassin’s Creed will not make the cut. It’s ok to borrow art but we’re aiming for a more nuanced approach. Don’t forget to include the code word “Malakas” in your app, so I know you read it all through. If you wanna know what it means, ask me. :D Player Info What should we call you: Age: Gender/Pronouns: Experience: Expectations of the game: Character Info (can be tweaked later) Name: Age: Race: Class: Personality: Brief Background:
This sounds fun. I love Greek mythology. What time is the campaign though? I ask since I am in the US and am on pst timezone rather than gmt. So I'm about 8-10 or so hours "behind" on the clocks. If it is after 5pm pst then I would like to play, or if another game starts at a different time that works as well.
A time hasn't been fully settled yet but it'll likely be between 8 or 9 pm local time.
Local for you or me?
For me. I'm GMT+2. I'm not certain where you are timezone-wise so I'm not sure how big a difference there is exactly. I can recommend www.worldtimebuddy.com as a means to check timezone differences, it's the tool I use.
Unfortunately I can't make that time since I'd be at work.
That's unfortunate, sorry you couldn't make it! Hope you find a game that fits your schedule!
Archaic Greece sounds great. Do you have some estimate how long the campaign should take? Whether it's just a few weeks or months or longer.
Hello Panda, I'll be sending you a pm. Regardless of what comes of it: thank you for being a (fellow) storyteller. There's never enough of us for the prospective players, let alone for all of us to get to play, too! Hope to hear back from you. :)
@ Michal L. - Definitely several months, maybe even up to a year depending on everyone's preferred pace. @Pat vdR - I'll get back to you as soon as I'm able.

Also send you something hope That you let me play
What level would you be starting the game at?
@Krakistophales The game begins at lvl 1. I'm not certain how far along the road to 20 we'll get.
I am crying right now, the Fates are too cruel. I just LOVE ancient Greek mythology and history. Unfortunately, I am under the EST time zone, so your 8-9 pm would be 1-2 pm for me, and I'll still be at work T_T
Oh I'm sorry to hear that! Hopefully you can find an ancient greek game to join in the future!

I love this idea!!! I have two ideas for characters  Malakas, huh? Player Info What should we call you: Jaime Age: 28 Gender/Pronouns: she/they Experience: 6 years as a player! Expectations of the game: Just a fun time, great story, and potentially fun roleplay! Also magic items, epic quests, ire of the gods, you know Greek Mythos Stuff  Character Info (can be tweaked later) Name: Sophia! Age: 19 Race: Aasimar! Class: preferably Hexblade, but can make rogue work. Maybe Roguelock? Personality: charming, heroic, a flirt, cunning! Brief Background: just a brief elevator pitch, but; So, I'm thinking that she's the daughter of an Oligarch and maybe a goddess??? from a large city, kind of a dick, his wife/her stepmother, and her twin brother, who takes after her father. She's essentially trying to overthrow him because he inflicts previously stated dickishness onto his people in the form of strict rule, lots of surveillance, high taxes, etc. All that bad stuff. And I'm thinking that she believes that her stepmother is her birthmother, she died under Mysterious Circumstances. So her story would be one about liberation, hero stuff, self-discovery, and maybe revenge? My other character is a half-elf (half-naiad) daughter of Poseidon who was raised by an all-female group of heroes!
Yo, this sounds soooo cool! Now now, do you want me to send you the app in a reply to this post or do I PM it to you? Anyway, I'll be looking forward to know where this goes :)
Either way works, since the majority of people have PM'd, go ahead and PM.
Thank you for all the applications!! As of now I will not be taking any more applicants so I can work through some interviews! I hope you all find a great game!
