During many campaigns we have 2 folders, 1 with magic items , 1 with players . And this leads to a major issue, who has what, and trying to find specific items in a long long list of various bits of gear. So what we do is have a folder for each character to store the magic items in their inventory , the issue with this is every time we use an item, change who has an item, or get a new item. the dm needs to do a ton of messing around with the items locations moving them around. Here is what i am recommending. Let GM's select specific folders, and let them to be edited by specific people, much like they can do with character sheets. Example= Gm lets player 1 edit player 1 folder, and "magic item" folder. This allows them to move items from their folder to the magic item folder, or items from the magic item folder to their inventory folder, however they cannot edit the items themselves, only move where they are within the folders. Player 2 is able to edit their folder, as well as the magic item folder. Player 2 has a potion of healing they want to give to player 1. So instead of the Gm having to move it, Player 2 moves it from their "Player 2 items" folder to "Group inventory" folder. Then player 1 moves it from "group inventory" to "Player 1 items" This allows the players to do their own inventory sorting maybe one player just keeps their bag a mess another sorts them by use, weapons, ammo, potions, spellscrolls, etc. while another sorts per bag, these in bag of holding, these in left pouch, these in backpack, these in coat pocket instead of forcing the GM to have to micromanage everyone's inventory, while also letting the players sort their own inventory of gear however they prefer.
