Introduction Good evening potential applicants and future students, I am setting up a new campaign on Wed nights with the goal of creating a fun story with interesting char development and memorable RP moments set in the Magical university of Strixhaven. I will be using the Strixhaven module as a base while adding a bunch of homebrew to flesh things out and add to the story as well as incorporating player backstories into the narrative. Basic Game Details Timezone Pacific Standard Gametime Wednesday 7:00 pm,-11:00 pm pst. (If players have hard off I can usually end games at a good stopping point within 15 mins over give or take but am fine to run later an extra hour or so if all players want to) Games will be using Roll20 and Discord We will be using maps and parts of the adventures from the Strixhaven module as well as parts of Candlekeep but there will also be added homebrew monsters and story beats to flesh out the curriculum Sessions will be recorded and posted unlisted on youtube in case a player misses something or wants to check what was said Party will be five to six players Games are 7 dollars USD a session starting after the second session paid via PayPal or Venmo. Brought down over time as the group is established. Why I run paid sessions? I have found it leads to more fun games for me and my players. About Me (Your DM) I am a recent college graduate from UCLA in philosophy and was one of those kids that was nerdy and liked their college major; hence I love toying with themes of questions regarding epistemology (what is truth and knowledge), metaphysics (what is reality and the universe), and ethics/political philosophy in my games. I work 9:00-5:00 with occasional overtime but will be very rare that this would make me start late but I would give credit for the next game if I ever do and give a heads up via discord on my phone. I have been dming for two years but this will be my second paid game. My first paid campaign is a backstory-driven Wildemount game (The Setting of Critical Role Campaign 2) that has been going on for just over half a year now. That campaign has been going great and my players would happily answer any questions if you wanted to get their perspective on my dming. I own all the books on roll 20 so char creation through the charmancer will be super easy. I am also fine with players using DnD beyond with the beyond 20 extension for Roll20. Char Creation Chars will start at level 1 and will get the free feat as part of classes in the campaign. I am open to point buy or any method of rolling stats depending on player desire. (In order to keep the module challenging if we do a high method of rolling stats I will adjust monsters and npcs to keep the game engaging. All official published materials will be allowed. (Except the backgrounds from the colleges will not be taken at level 1 but got through the story AND Silvery Barbs will be up to player discussion.) If writing a ton of backstory helps you great. I will read it but if it is longer than a page and a half I probably will not remember it all so try to create a condensed version. Is this campaign a good fit? Are you a player that enjoys collaborative storytelling and entertaining other players at the table through their rp and char development that can share the spotlight and enjoys learning about the backstory of their fellow pcs. that if they enjoy session 0 and session 1 then they can commit to paying 7 dollars a session brought down to 25 a month once the group is established. that can make the times in this post and if all those are a yes and you have read this far I am guessing the game interest you so YES you are very likely a good fit. Interested or have questions? If you have any questions or are interested in applying add me on discord (Matthew Palmer#1455) and if you want to get a gold star on your application send the following in your first message when you are ready. a basic char pitch no more than a paragraph a basic rundown of your experience as a player What you are looking to get out of a campaign Why I charge explained a bit more? I do not charge for games because I view my prep time as work, and think players should compensate me for it. Some DMs it is their job and they enjoy doing that is not the case for me. It is at times work prepping and running sessions, but I love doing almost all of it and players owe me nothing for it. The reasons I charge for games are as follows: It gets more dedicated players. Nothing is worse than spending a ton of time setting up dynamic lighting creating custom encounters for a session all based around a chars backstory over a couple of hours of prep for them to no show or randomly drop out. Or for the players to just show up and troll everyone It gets more engaged players if people are spending their money they want to get the most of it and are more likely to engage in rp It helps reimburse all the money I spend running the game (I regularly spend more than I make but it balances out) Roll20 Subscription Mapmaking software Digital Books Including Rules, Items, Modules, and other Compendium additions Art assets on roll 20 include dynamically lit full-color battle maps for most encounters, npc tokens with unique art for most NPCs. Commissioned Art of Battle Maps that I need which do not exist as well as once the party is established possibly purchasing art of the party It enables me to support the DnD content creation community of artists and writers. I have found it leads to more fun games for me and my players.
