If interested, please let me know here: https://app.roll20.net/forum/post/10574545/new-apply-thread/?pageforid=10574545#post-10574545 About me: I'm an experienced DM who likes to run player driven, story focused games. I like running combat, but I wouldn't consider my fights to be particularly challenging. I really like improv and working with my players on the fly when they want to try something out. For the most part, I'm able to really work with my players and come up with something interesting. I don't like telling them "no" all the time. About the world Long ago, the mortals of Annoxar were enslaved by aberrations, beings from beyond our realm. At that time, the weave was not anchored to our world, and mortals were unable to cast spells. Then, Orpheus, the God of Arcana, blessed mankind with the world tree. The world tree anchored the weave to our reality, and mortals learned to harness the power of magic. With their newfound power, they drove the aberrations out and claimed their home for themselves. Since then, the humans, elves, dwarves, and everything in between have established themselves in this land as their home. It has not been smooth sailing these past few centuries, but many believe the future is prosperous for all people. Perhaps things will be quiet in the coming future, but there is such a thing as being too quiet. My world has its own pantheon, and the gods are integral to the world itself. I have done a decent amount of world building and continue to add more. I have also created civilizations, some of them with unique equipment and technology. They each have their own culture and cities, as well! About the game As the title states, I want to run a sandbox game, driven by the players! There will be an overarching plot, but the idea is that I feed hooks to the players and let them explore the world as they see fit. They can go where they please, do as they wish, and interact with what they find interesting! There will be no "you go here and find [person] [doing thing] in this game. The players will actively decide what they want to do, and I will respond to it. The story so far The party found themselves in Masland, where they encountered a local gang known as the rat band. After some investigation, they found a plot to overthrow the local baron and establish themselves as the government of the town. They discovered a particularly annoying individual, known as Chaz, was supplying the rat band with gold and resources. However, Chaz’s endgame was to steal a book from the baron, an effort in which he succeeded. The party chased Chaz to Pollux, the city of magical education, where they found he was trying to steal a spell scroll from the professor of the school of abjuration. They thwarted his plot and killed him, and discovered that the scroll was a scroll of imprisonment. Unsure of his motives, they searched his things and found the book he stole in Masland and found he was using it to commune with the goddess of trickery, Atropos. The party met Morlar, the most respected wizard in the land, who seeked to destroy the book upon reading its contents. Impressed with their work, he offered them a job, and asked them to meet him at his tower. The party, now en route to Morlar's tower, stopped in Parrish to find a crew to sail their vessel, but are now investigating the strangely oppressive guards. Blatant schemes and shakedowns disguised as taxes are left and right, and there seems to be more to this town than meets the eye. The party has been directed to the slums, where they might be able to find some answers. The party met a shady individual who informed them they might find a crew for their ship in the slums, as most people would do anything to get out of this town. The party began asking about Chaz and what services they provide, and the shady elf informed them they were too noble for the work they provide. "You all seem like decent folk, but unfortunately, decent folk are not the kind of people I try to employ." He then informed them they were asking questions that would assuredly lead them to upsetting the wrong people, and result in their demise. The party cut their losses, and hired a crew to man their vessel. At Morlar's tower, they met with Morlar, who then provided a warm meal after their long journey. Afterwards, he informed them that the job he wanted to provide for them was extremely dangerous of an indeterminate degree, and that this was their last chance to back out. He showed them a range of mountains separating the country of Ydriss and the desert to the north, where a large crater was in the side of the mountain, a pit opening deep beneath the surface. Unsure of exactly what happened, he informed the party of his working theory, which was that 2 months ago a meteor crashed through the mountain. What's worse, strange stones that appear sentient, but are no more remarkable than a simple rock began floating out of the hole, and strange otherworldly creatures began crawling out shortly after. Morlar informed the party that the aberrations were trying to force their way into the world once more. He asked the party to investigate what was happening beneath the surface, and, if able, to stop it. He also instructed them to run if things got too dangerous. Providing them the means to fly there, he sent them on their way. Thanks for reading, and if you want to join, feel free to let me know!
