[LFP] Taming the Borderlands [OSR] [D&D] [Sandbox] [18+] Wednesdays GMT EST

A century ago, the kingdom of Galand was rich and powerful. Then the Reven Wars came. After a decade of fighting, Queen Alith and her forces finally won a great victory at the Battle of Scalbridge, crushing the Reven armies and ending the threat. The cost was great though, and Galand was left a shadow of its former power. Today the southern coastline remains a prosperous area with plenty of farming, fishing and trade. The further one goes from the coast, the less civilised things become. Before the Battle of Scalbridge, the northern and eastern marches boasted plenty of castles and wizards’ towers that kept the people safe, but over the last century many of these have been destroyed or abandoned, and now bandits, goblins and worse creatures range freely over the land. People travel little and then only in groups. Rumour has it that a dragon has destroyed several villages in the northern plains, and the eastern half of the kingdom fares no better. Even the safer parts of the Bleakwood are rife with strange monsters and magic. Still there is hope. Since King Osfram took the throne two years ago, things have begun to improve. The army has been reorganised, a college of wizards established, and alliances made with other nations. Now, he has issued a proclamation throughout the kingdom of Galand and to its allies. Anyone who swears fealty to him and can bring order to a portion of the borderlands will be rewarded with rank and title and may keep whatever wealth they recover. Adventurers from near and far have come to take the King’s offer – some dream of rebuilding a castle and becoming a baron, others hope to find lost magics in crumbled wizards’ towers. Many hope for wealth and fame, whilst others share the King’s dream of bringing safety and order back to the land.   ----------------- Logistical stuff Games on Wednesdays, UK time. Could be evening or daytime, depending on people’s availability. The times might work our for people on EST as well. New role-players welcome. Players must be over 18.   Characters start at level 1. No evil characters. Characters may be flawed or make some questionable decisions, but this isn’t the campaign for “murder-hoboes”. Discord for voice. Roll20 for the tabletop. You can find the campaign info pack here :   About the campaign After a few years break from gaming, I’m keen to start up a new RPG. I used to play a lot of Pathfinder 1E, but now I’ve decided to run something old school. Essentially the rules are Labyrinth Lord (Revised), which is a tidied up version of Basic/Expert D&D from 1983. Not having huge amounts of free time, I like the fact that the rules are quite simple and that it’s open ended. It also looks good for sandbox games where players can explore the world and leave their mark on it. The set-up of the campaign assumes that some PCs will want to carve out a niche for themselves on the borderlands, establish some sort of stronghold and gain a noble title. There’s room for other goals and activities within that, but that’s the general idea of the campaign. About Old School D&D / Labyrinth Lord ·         This version of D&D is unforgiving to low level characters, but probably envisages more opportunities to trick, negotiate with or otherwise overcome enemies without resorting to combat than more recent versions. ·          You receive experience for treasure recovered as well as monsters defeated. Defeated doesn’t have to mean killed. ·          The system assumes PCs will have retainers (followers), and that some of them will accompany the party on adventures. As PCs are less individually powerful, smaller parties may well need them to get through adventures. Retainers can also become replacement characters if a PC dies.   Interested? Send me a PM on Roll20 or put a post on the game forum . It would great if you could let me know a bit about your gaming background and why you’re keen to join this campaign.
**Update 9 March** - A space has opened up since we've lost someone to scheduling issues, so we're looking for one more player. We've had four sessions so far and everyone is still level 1, so you'd still be joining close to the start of the campaign.
