Can I give players access to my Art Library?

February 06 (3 years ago)

I recently purchased and downloaded a very neat set of animated graphics for spells. But they are relegated to a folder in my Art Library and I want to make them available to my players so they can place them on the map where they like, and I see no way to do that. Am I missing something?

The way I do this is by creating characters for each spell effect with the correctly sized graphic as the token. I then set the character control to all players and they can drag it out from the journal as needed.

I thought of that but I see no way to transfer the token from the Art Library into a token for a character sheet.

You can! Open the Character Sheet (on the BIO TAB). Press EDIT.  You'll see the dashed-line box to drag-drop a Character Avatar into.

Have your Art Library open on the right. Drag the art into the Avatar area.

Last, you (or the spellcaster player) can drag that Character from the Journals onto the tabletop, creating a Token of it.

Steps:

  1. Create spell character with appropriate name.
  2. Save character.
  3. Drag spell graphic to a map
  4. Adjust its size to be correct.
  5. Set its name and other properties.
  6. set it to represent the character from step 1
  7. Edit character
  8. Click "use selected token" to store the graphic.
  9. Be sure controlled by has all players in it.
  10. Save the character.

One little option to add to The Aaron's list.

If you want any player to interact with a spell token after it is dragged out, then follow what The Aaron posted.  If you want the player that drags the token out to be the only one that can interact with it (besides the GM of course), then skip step 6.

That's an interesting little trick I've never considered. Hmm.

One of those things I found out by accident when I made some map pin rollable tables for one game and couldn't (for a while) figure out why only the person that dragged it out could interact with it.

Hmm, that is interesting. In the past that would make a token on the GM had the ability to move. I'll have to do some experimenting.

thanks.

I'd probably make a rolable token with all the art and make it a public token if its spell templates.

Pros and Cons,

Good: The rollable token method would reduce the number of Characters (and character sheets with a lot of attributes can eventually cause lag). There would be less clutter under Journals tab.  Once the spelleffects Token is on the tabletop you don't have to keep switching to Journals tab to find a new spell effect, you've got a built-in Chooser/Picker interface right there on the token (Choose Side).

Bad: Rollable Table doesn't display the Name of the "Side" in the picker, you have to recognize visually if it's a FireBall or a FireSmall. No list of names to find-recognize the desired spell effect. Sizing: each spell effect graphic will be the same size at first, so if you have the Rollable Token at the size of a Large Fireball but you cast TinyInsect then the insect will initially appear as-large as the Fireball until you resize it on screen. Whereas with Characters you can pre-set the size of each spell and Set As Default Token thus preserving the initial size of each.
