On the tapestry of fate, along which each being's path is merely a thread drawn, measured, and finally cut by The Traveler, all lives are ultimately the same. Apparently, the same is true in The King's Coin tavern in Stormreach. Having fought their way to the antechamber of the Xen'drik giants' throne room, the Outcasts received their latest surprise when their warforged companion Legion chose to enter the throne room by himself and close the door behind him. Within, the muffled and metallic voice of Legion--speaking in a language Twitch did not understand--was joined by a deep, echoing voice that boomed in response. That the second voice belonged to a giant, Twitch was certain; but far from certain was what was being said. Without a second thought--okay, perhaps a second thought; running back to the portal to escape before the giant king's reinforcements arrived definitely crossed Twitch's mind--Twitch burst through the throne room door, her Sentinel Shield emblazoned with the mark of The Traveler at the ready, only to find Legion conversing calmly with the giant king himself! Conquering her fear and confusion--and after confirming with the giant king that his troops would honor a truce while the companions conversed with him--Twitch listened as Legion explained that the giant king had told him that Legion was a "vessel" prophesized by seers among the ancient giants prior to the destruction of their civilization in their war with the dragons--a war in which The Traveler himself had cursed the continent of Xen'drik so that no giant civilization could ever re-emerge, Twitch recalled. In any event, according to the giant king, many of the ancient giants had bound their souls into magical objects--the Docents--that could bind with a warforged "vessel" in the distant future. However, the seers' prophecy had proven incorrect, or at least misleading. The Docents could bind with the warforged, but the souls that inhabited the Docents and warforged would have no memories of their ancient giant lives. The seer who had led the effort to bind giant souls with the Docents, the giant king had revealed, was his sister Shira. Legion, the giant king had told the warforged, was in fact the ancient giant Lee d'Jon. (The whereabouts of the ancient giant J'onn J'onzz apparently remain unknown.) As the Outcasts took time to absorb this information, Sh'Nezz'Tar inquired of the giant king regarding his fragment of the magic sword. The giant king revealed that Sh'Nezz'Tar was "The Keeper," and that he was to play a great role in defeating ancient evil (or something to that effect--Twitch was distracted while nervously watching the door to ensure that the group wasn't ambushed). The giant king gave Sh'Nezz'Tar an amulet called The Anchor of the Guardians, but explained that the amulet was meant for someone other than The Keeper to wear to help protect The Keeper from harm. The companions chose Twitch to wear the amulet, which she placed carefully around her neck beside the amulet of The Traveler she already wore. And what of the magic items that the kobold illusionist, the Dragon Prince, had quested the Outcasts to obtain? The giant king was willing to allow the companions to keep the Almanac they had retrieved from the palace archives, and the vials of waters they had obtained from the fountain in palace's undercroft. But as to the king's crown, the king explained, they would only take it from him by killing him. Instead, the king offered a counter-proposal: kill the Dragon Prince and bring the kobold's corpse to the king as proof, and the giant king would help the Outcasts achieve the goals with which the Dragon Prince had promised to aid the group. Twitch eyed Lukar and Yipping carefully for their reactions to this offer, as both seemed to have much invested in the outcomes of these quests, but her undead and kobold companions proved inscrutable for the moment. With a vague promise to deliver on the king's requests, the companions were granted safe passage back to Stormreach, which they quickly used to rest, recover, and remove themselves from the immediate dangers of the giants' domain. Back in Stormreach, the Outcasts reconnected with Captain Redtusk of The Heartbreaker--which had moved itself to the Stormreach harbor in light of the newfound freedoms that the Outcasts had helped to win for the city--before venturing into the city to learn more about the ongoing elections for Stormreach's mayor. Four citizens had put forward their candidacies for the election, which was now just three weeks away: Baron Lassite, a Storm Lord, who pledged to continue the status quo in the city and full employment through vice and freedom; Lord Zanovar d'Lyrandar, the head of House Lyrandar in Stormreach and the father of Twitch's childhood nemesis Tyrese Lyrandar, who campaigned on a promise to "make Stormreach great again" (upon hearing Lord Zanovar's campaign slogan, Envy immediately composed scathing songs mocking the Lyrandar lord and performed them to wild acclaim at the Dragon Bar); Lady Olivera, the Outcasts' erstwhile ally, leader of the Jade Vipers, and secret servant of the aboleth Neglith , who promised order, law applied to all, and equality among all people; and finally, Lance Dutane, a local bar owner with no clear message, who campaigned on a vague platform of anti-corruption and allowing the common people to live just and decent lives. For her part, Twitch felt the burden of the decisions presented to the group. Killing the giant king or the Dragon Prince, or intervening directly in the elections, could all have dramatic effects on both the lives of the Outcasts as well as Stormreach. Neither Captain Redtusk nor Glitz, the owner of the Dragon Bar, had much specific advice to offer (Glitz suggested vaguely to "keep things the same" and said, somewhat ominously, that the Outcasts might be fulfilling a portion of the Dragon Prophecy of Eberron). After meeting with mayoral candidate Lance Dutane and receiving a mysterious summons to the King's Coin that the companions interpreted to have come from Lady Olivera, the Outcasts made their way to the King's Coin. There, Twitch spotted the bruised and battered face of Tyrese Lyrandar. The Lyrandar debutante asked to speak privately, to which Twitch--barely controlling her primal instincts to shift into her bestial form--ultimately agreed. Tyrese offered a purse full of platinum to the Outcasts to kill her father, Lord Zanovar, who Tyrese said beat her because she had not manifested a Dragonmark. Tyrese feared that Zanovar would mean ruin for Stormreach. After healing Tyrese's wounds, Twitch pushed Tyrese's coins back to her. Twitch vowed to help Tyrese escape Stormreach, and further pledged to humiliate Lord Zanovar publicly--a fate worse than death, Twitch suggested. In exchange, Tyrese would need to agree to give all of her access, connections, and everything she knew about her father's operations. Tyrese agreed. Twitch's eyes narrowed and her mouth curled into a grim smile. The Traveler delights in trickery that humbles the great and raises up the weak, she thought. And if it means destroying this puffed-up petty lord, I am more than willing to be His instrument.
