It seems to me that my roll templates have a lot of restrictions attached to them along the lines of what I read the charactersheet had before the CSE update. Is there some way to enable CSE in the chat too?
No, CSE only applies to the sheet. There is something about how chat works that they had to keep the old restrictions in place for roll templates. At least for now...
Unlike the character sheets, roll templates are not embedded in an iframe, they're just in the chat, so there's no way to sandbox the CSS that is applying to them. At least that's my understanding of the issue from when CSE was released.
