Hi there, my name is Tom. You might remember from such works as Blestem Viorea and the lesser known Murder on the Highbeam Express . That's right, I'm kind of a big deal. But you're in luck, because now you - yes, you - have a chance to play with yours truly. A fellow by the name of WarwickKnight will be running a game in the near future called Our Darker Purpose , and I'm going to be a player in it! Isn't that exciting? Of course my good fellow is not as seasoned a Dungeon Master as myself, but he was directly trained under me over the course of the aforementioned Blestem Viorea wherein I introduced him to the Alexian Method of Dungeon Mastering. He even got to meet and roleplay alongside the legendary Tom0. Now, with all these insights and skills he's acquired, he will be running this game for me and two other alumni from the Tomian School of Roleplay. We're talking scene-oriented playlists, theater of mind, cutaways, splitting the party to foster personal character development and growth in individualized scenes that other PCs don't belong in - you know, because Luke finding out Darth Vader is his father in front of Han, Leia, Chewy, and C3P0, and having them chime in is kind of anticlimactic. What's the game about? It's in the title. It's about Our Darker Purpose . The aim is to use the Dark Powers of Ravenloft to take the backstory you submit and judo flip it back on yourself, make your friends your enemies, your enemies your friends, your quest your death, and your death your quest (when your character becomes so suicidally depressed they want to just end it but can't). Thrilling! Take my character for example. A merry and uplifting, young martyr to-be who is destined to die for a greater good- but, she's not the only one. There were four others before they were seduced to the dark side! Rather than devote their deaths to the preservation of the world, these dark martyrs devote the world to death for the preservation of their lives. I know. I'm such a great writer, aren't I? Play with me and maybe one day you can get on my level. Alright, the jobbers should have stopped reading by now. If you've made it this far, maybe you're actually a match for this group. If you could see through the scalding hot irony, even better. If you couldn't, but crack a smile in hindsight, there's hope. If you think I'm a dumb rudder fluffer, you should probably keep reading. I've taken the initiative here to add onto our humble DM's efforts to find a 4th player. This isn't his first time DMing, but it is his first time running a feature-length campaign. We have different ideas about how to recruit people. I find it more fruitful to just lay out who I am and what I'm like so that you can determine if you jive with me and like what I have to offer. The foundation of any group that lasts is people who actually like each other, so I look for that. Roleplay skills can always be improved on if the person is passionate enough about the hobby and self-reflective enough to see their strengths and weaknesses. I tend to like people who have those qualities, so it all flows together. As for me, I'm a late 20s-year-old dude, I like inappropriate humor, I detest monstrous races as PCs, I love God, and I hate the sin of pride. The people in our group are all within 2, out of 6, degrees of separation from me in terms of personality (if that helps), which is just to say we all get along well with those being the foremost things I could think of that might turn people away from me. Consider this a backdoor into the campaign. The DM puts a lot of trust in me, so if you're interested, shoot me a DM and tell me about yourself, tell me why you're interested in Our Darker Purpose and/or our group, and tell me about the kinds of characters you like to play. Chances are if you've read all this and still want in, you're a match. I like to have a back and forth with people in voice, as well, but if we jive, I'll vouch for you. Fair warning, the DM will want to do a one-shot with you, but don't let that discourage you. If anything, it speaks to the quality of the games we play together in that we are so thorough in our efforts to find the right players. With D&D, like with any hobby, you reap what you sow. The more you put in, the more you get out. We put in a lot of effort to make our games compelling, emotional, dimensional, and fun. We're looking for someone who's looking to do the same. P.S. - No couples. You can both apply, but that one-shot's gonna be a fight to the death to see who makes it into the campaign if you do.
