Can't get enemies to roll spell attacks and damage

I'm trying to add spells to a boss, but no matter what options I select (auto roll damage, spell attack) when I click the spell it only posts the spellcard and not an attack roll or damage. Any ideas how to fix this so I'm not rolling manually for every spell?
Here's how I add spells to NPC sheets. Let's say I want to give my goblins access to Vampiric Touch. (Sorry, players.) 1. Open the character sheet. Hover the mouse over the upper right portion of the sheet to make a gear icon appear. Click that icon; this will launch NPC Options. 2. In NPC Options, check the "Spellcasting NPC" checkbox. Optionally, choose a spellcasting ability and caster level. (I have chosen to say that this goblin is a fifth-level spellcaster who uses Dexterity as their casting stat, because why not.) Also, make sure that "Auto Roll Damage & Crit" is selected if that is the behavior you want. 3. Find "Vampiric Touch" in the Compendium and drag it onto the character sheet. The phrase "ACCEPTING DROP FROM COMPENDIUM" should appear, and then you should have Vampiric Touch in the new spellcasting section of your goblin character sheet. 4. Click the "Vampiric Touch" text and you'll get an attack roll with damage. (Good night, Level 1 PC.). Does some version of this workflow get you what you're looking for?

Unfortunately no, adding spells from the compendium is not resolving the issue. A big part of the issue is that I don't have all the sourcebooks and have had to add a bunch of spells manually. To use Chromatic Orb as an example: I fill out the spell data (setting up spellcasting ability, output, attack roll, etc) but I still only get a description and the stat-derived save DC. I'm trying to get it to roll attack and damage (see below, using one of my player's Fire Bolts) but no change in the options above seems to be doing the trick. Is it even possible to get this output from an NPC's spell?

Hmm ... I have the identical setup to you from the official Chromatic Orb spell, and that one is making an attack roll with damage, rather than sending a spellcard to the chat. To get some simple stuff out of the way first: are you clicking on the text "Chromatic Orb" in your NPC's spellcasting section, rather than the icon shaped like a speech bubble to the right of the text (which will send a spellcard)? Clicking the text: Clicking the speech bubble icon: (Never mind the low save DC ... I dragged Chromatic Orb onto a cat.) Edit: I made a quick and dirty custom spell attack, and it seems to send attack and damage to the chat just fine: Edit: Yay! I'm glad we could help. Have fun pummeling those PCs!

Also, where are you casting the spell from? If you are casting it from the "Attacks" section, and not the Spellcasting" section, it might not have propogated all needed info without a compendium drag.
Got it. Thanks, this is a much bigger help for tomorrow's boss fight!
