"The Department of Mutant and Altered Control is a rough life. You'd think we're police officers, that we protect and serve. And we want to be, but it's hard to protect and serve when everyone thinks that you're the government's lapdogs. That you're protecting yourself and serving G.AT.E's interests. I wish I could tell you we were. Christ, I wish that our own kin didn't turn on us like rabid dogs when we took our only offer. I wish that we could live normal lives. But most of us have seen the Vault. It's a fuckin' scary place. None of us would trade this modicum of freedom we've got now if it meant going back there. Where it feels like someone's crawlin' in your skull. Like someone else is wearing you like a suit. Life isn't pleasant here in the DMAC. But I'll take protecting the ungrateful masses from the kaiju, those hiveminded mutts and the United Mutant and Altered Front any day over going back into a cell, or facing the extreme brutality of GATE on the streets. Ask any of the rest of us, and we'll all tell you the same." Captain Len Ingram, DMAC The DMAC is a PL9 M&M3 campaign, set in a fictional future of Earth, where in a strange borealis has set off a sweeping phenomenon throughout the planet, giving rise to mutants and altered humans - beings that possess powers akin to the superheroes of movie and comic fame. In the midst of the surge of Altered appearing, confusion, racism and fear abounds. This isn't a story about survival in the face of adversity, but instead, of people who were falsely accused, legitimate criminals, and those who want to try and make a difference in abating the fear that exists by joining a special department designed to police their own kind. Met with resistance from their own kind, distrust from their superiors and attacked on all sides by villains and rebels alike. It's not a game of glorious superheroes in masks with fancy names. It's a game about the reality of a world where people with powers exist, and the fear that would shake society - the extremes they would go to, and trials those who stand in the way of chaos face. Getting down the details, DMAC is a text-based game, first and foremost. It will use some form of group messaging, in order to gather a group to discuss. Whether this is skype, yahoo, or even IRC doesn't matter, I'll find whatever works best for everyone. The game is set at PL9 (135 points), and is intended to be fairly gritty. Altered are just as fragile as humans when they don't possess a bloodline that makes them more resilient. This leads to character who will often face down lethal situations, they don't heal as quickly, and they don't have Superman-esque suites of powers to call on. Altered gain the thematic powers passed down through their mixed bloodlines. The further away from the Progenitor of an Altered Bloodline a current Altered is, the more and more they deviate in what powers they have acquired from their parents. This results in very focused characters - having skin like steel, the ability to absorb matter, the ability to regenerate from even fatal wounds. These are all examples of singular Altered. The game thrives on the idea that it is story-focused. It focuses less on the interactions of superbeings clashing, and more on the interactions of how these people function in a society that ultimately rejects them. It mixes elements of action, horror and cyberpunk into a near-future sci-fi setting that cares less about how you kill the villain of the week, and more how you prevent shattering the world of glass you live in while doing so.
