long story short I had a friend on with me and we couldn't see or hear each other. Our name and pic icons came up showing that we were both in the room, but that's it. The settings were all on video and sound. what am I doing wrong?
You're using the built in video I take it... I've not used it myself, but I'm pretty sure it uses flash. If you have flash blocked for the site, that might cause you not to see each other.
The old version of the TokBox uses Flash. The default version of it does not and relies on WebRTC instead. Make sure both of you are using either Chrome or Firefox and that you both click on the message that should pop up to allow Roll20 to broadcast with your webcam and mic. Make sure that both of your settings under Video + Voice is set to "Video and Voice" under "I want to Broadcast to others" and "I want to receive to others"
