Greetings, programs! With more time suddenly on my hands in coming months, I'd like to start a new, 5th edition, 1st level campaign in my long-time homebrew world. I'm old school, with a lot of background and history with the game. Have been running D&D since I was a kid. Seen it all. I like a game that starts at first level in the classic way, and let characters find hooks and take interesting paths and help create the campaign with me. I may have a semi-story planned, but I don't script. I let characters make the flow. I'm character friendly and watching them interact with the world, each other, and grow and evolve are my main joys and why I do this and still do it free. I don't start things in an epic fashion. Characters come together, have increasingly complex sessions, and the epic comes later (maybe by player choice). You can look at my humble bio for a deeper dive into my soul. Some pertinents: *my preference right now is for basic races and classes from the PHB, and maybe Tasha's. We can tweak, though I'm newish to the edition but have run a couple of successful medium long campaigns in person and on Roll20 the last couple years. But please, no cyborg beholder gunslingers. I can run a great session for fighters, rogues, rangers.. *I use battlemaps and tokens and a little juke box here and there for flavor. Nothing fancy. I like it easy peasy. Character sheets within Roll20, sure. But I have not had a great experience with things like D&D Beyond. We don't need that. You must be into Keep It Simple Son (KISS) and be like me; more about the actual playing than the ga ga bells and whistles. "The play is the thing", said some famous guy once. We pretend to be elves, do some talking, and move tokens around. Again, I use the tech to do a classic style. If you want special effects from ILM this might not be for you. *I try to hew to the rules, but I'm a former 1st editioner so using wonky rules has made me a wing-it dude. Winging decisions, winging encounters. "Rulings over rules." *I prefer people mature (ish) and over 21 years old. This isn't seereeuzbiznizz, but I want people who can both have some gravitas and a wicked wit. And I am an adult and run games for adults. Things might get "R" rated, but I don't lean heavily into sexual stuff. But I can get gritty. Goody Two Shoes and Anti-heroes both welcome, but if you want to be evil and do nasty stuff then this may not be for you. I get to be the nasty one. Uh, running your enemies that is.. *I've run a lot of groups in my life, mixed male and female usually, of various age groups. I'm older but fairly hip and maybe a hippy, and am welcoming to anybody who is fun and friendly and can have a sense of humor. We are all passengers on this planet. We are together in this experience and will be good to each other. And variety is good. Maybe great. Nuff said. *I don't believe in paying to have fun with D&D with interesting and fun people. I want to be friends with my players. I don't charge friends. But I am considering a deposit situation that is returned after the second game or something like that. Like 20 bucks, returned after that. Just because, lets face it, there are a lot of flakes. Give me two games to win you over. My game will grow on you. *Don't want to rush into it. I'd like to PM, message, then in a week maybe a discord chat then a voice chat. We still interested.? Then set up a game for a couple weeks from then. Maybe the week before that. How bad to we want to begin? *So, I am open as to days. But I strongly prefer a three hour session from 7-10ishPM pacific time (during spring and summer) 2-4 times a month (depending on availability). We would play with discord chat, no distracting video. * contact me if this might be something you want to commit to. I don't like to spend a lot of time on exposition before we are even close to a game, but hit me up with simple questions about the game or my style if you like. I'm still pondering details (character generation style, etc). If we get a lot of responses will narrow things down and go into more detail on Discord and such. But at the outside being open minded and being able to casually manage expectations is a good place to start when playing in a strangers game, not talking it to death before we even play. Starting with a character you are into and happily playing them in whatever scenario I present will be the key to early success in my games. My long time world is more or less a standard D&D world as more or less presented by the rules. *Lets get together for a fun, entertaining campaign to welcome the spring and summer. Cheers and thanks for reading.
