New and looking to learn

Hello folks my name is Chris i'm 23 I've never played D&D of any type before so i'll be asking a lot of Q's. What interested me in D&D was admittedly Roll play so far I've seen Swan song and Solum and i love them so i would prefer to play similar to those (D&D 2.0 i think) although i'm more then willing to try any of them out i just know a bit about those types is all. If your interested in teaching a complete noob please respond to my post and just let me know everything I'll need to do and ill look forward to playing with you :).

Hello Chris, here is the link to the free online rules for pathfinder: http://paizo.com/pathfinderRPG/prd/ . Now there are many views on what system is best to start off with. Oldschoolchris and I are of the view that the more simpler systems are the best to start with while there are others that feel pathfinder or 4e is better. It depends on the complexity of rules you wish to learn. I would stay if you want to start out fresh and new in this hobby of pen and paper gaming, take a look at 5e (latest edition of D&D), you can get the basic beginners rules for free: http://dnd.wizards.com/articles/features/basicrules?x=dnd/basicrules I like to play using the free system called: Basic Fantasy Role-Playing System . There is a group here on roll20 that is for playing one shots and teaching beginners: BFRPG Group Friday Night Pickups . There is games running usually on friday in various campaign boards that use that board as a messaging and announcement center.
Whereas I'm of the opinion that new players should try a whole slew of different games so that they can see what kinds of rules and games are available. While you might be aware of D&D, you might end up liking something completely different. Or you could try a bunch of different games and find that you really enjoy D&D. Or both. I don't have anything running right now, but there are a lot of games available. If you see something you like, just message the GM and ask if they will take you on (perhaps starting with a side demo to the main game). I've yet to hear any trend of GMs or players turning away new blood, aside from a specific game having a lot of players already.

Duh, your right Scooter. I wasn't even thinking outside of D&D. There is fate and other systems you can get for free.
I prefer World of Darkness I don't have the manuals to run a PF game I only do text based till I buy my own pc.. I can show you World but its dark and a mature setting not pg-13 like Pf or DnD.
My friends and I are rebuilding our group and we love teaching new people. Between the three of us we have experience in many games but tend to run D&D 3.5 as our main game. You can message me or our head gm sokgen@gmail.com
