Not a good solution but you could try uploading the files into your quota, I know for a fact animations in the quota still work but I don't use animated gifs anymore, I find they loop a bunch then start to lag and play only a few frames before they freeze up and its highly dependent on the viewers pc stats how soon they slow down. What happens if you click on the animation / right click on it? There should be a little menu giving you a few options (e.g. Loop). If this is not there or it still does not work for you, try file a help center request (support ticket) It gives me the typical options for a regular token or map item. I do not see anything that says something like "loop" only the options I normally see on non-animated objects. I'll put forward a help center request, thank you. I have the animated spell circles and if I put them on the map I have different options to set. E.G. to set it to loop once, loop forever etc. But if you don't have it a help center request is the best option for you.
