Tokens keep resetting their names when viewing feat descriptions.

What is this janky nonsense? Every time I upload new tokens and associate them with a sheet that has a first and last name, then modify the token's name and expand/contract a feat on the sheet, the token name resets to the sheet's name. This is extremely annoying as I need tokens to have short names to avoid them clipping into other tokens as much as possible.

Hi Cid Silverwing! This is not normal behavior, so if you could answer a few questions, we might be able to discover the issue. 1. Can you give exact reproduction steps, including the sheet you are using? (I can't reproduce given the brief steps above on the D&D 5th Edition by Roll20 Sheet). 2. At what point in the process are you saving the default token, and at what point do you notice the name change? (Just trying to rule out a procedural timing error). 3. Are you using any third party extensions that modify the operation or behavior of Roll20? Does the error occur in a private browsing window? (Ruling out the interference of other code).
The behavior is inconsistent and only seems to happen to -some- new tokens, not tokens that were created before whatever update to the Roll20 engine causes this issue. Step 1, create a sheet then a token with a name, say John Doe. Step 2, change the token's name to John. Step 3, expand the description text of a feat. This will, for no discernible reason, cause mostly new tokens to reset their names to the sheet's current name. This issue started happening in April 2022 for me, I can't narrow it down any further than this. No third-party extensions are being used, though I run on the Brave browser.

I'd like to help, but that's still not enough info for me to try reproducing. There are too many assumed steps. At what point does the token get associated with the sheet? At what point is the default token saved? Is the token name changed before or after the default token is saved? The order of these steps is important. The act of associating a token with a sheet for instance will automatically change the name. If you saved the default token before before making the association, any default token pulled from that sheet will have the original name. I have tried numerous iterations on your instructions, but I cannot find any combination that causes this phenomenon to occur. I don't doubt that it's happening to you. But I am willing to bet that it is probably a procedural error (or the forum would be flooded with similar reports), or possibly, something specific to the Brave browser (though I don't know what mechanism might cause this. I'm still willing to help examine this issue, and I'll even fill out a report alongside yours if I can reproduce it. But so far, I can't.

Do you create a sheet with the name John Doe and then upload an image to it from which you create the token by dragging it to the map? (if so, the token is already linked with the Sheet. If you THEN change the name of the token it should work without any Problems. However if you upload an image to the map and link it LATER, all information the token had will be overwritten by the infos from the character sheet now linked. The Solution to your Problem would be: create a character sheet upload an image to it (character image) drag it to the map so that a token is created from the sheet and is thus linked to the sheet edit the token the way you want. Edit the character sheet and set the edited token as default token for that sheet (e.g. if you have filled in values to use one of the three bars of a token; optional)

I don't know what happened, but now when I dragged the sheet's picture to the map, expanding the feats doesn't reset the name on either of the two tokens I was trying to reproduce the issue with. But then I tried it with an other sheet and token, the issue has... Resolved itself?

So you do not need to do it manually :) (That's why I posted the steps in my last comment ;) )
