The payment is not a problem. I am going to pin down my friend this week to see if he's going to start running Tuesday. Both his mom and stepdad have gone through some medical stuff recently, and he's on disability. They're all capable, but it's taking more work with them hobbled . If you are considering a paid campaign I am running Storm Kings Thunder. If you know Forgotten Realms it's the most sandbox of all the capmpaigns. We've been as far south as Candlekeep and as far north as Icewind Dale. If you want to go hardcore sandbox it takes a LOT of prep. I've have about 250 maps. Note- I DO NOT expect that kind of thing in a game I play. as a DM I love diving deep into lore that nobody cares about and get kindof obsessive :) As a player I'm ok with just about any style of play (no evil). You can do as much sandbox as you want. The downside to StK is that they only give you a couple of lines description about each place. Having said all this I and my friend would not play STK; I'm running three and he's in all of them. But if we're not it's something to think about It seems that Princes Apocalypse is a little sandbox. I don't know much about it, am considering running in the future. If you're new imo Phandelver is the best intro mini campaign. It walks a new DM through stuff and gradually adds more. The adventure is fairly good, and even being a very experienced DM I wasn't bored. There is also a ton of 3rd party support if you wanted to expand the campaign. I don't how much of it is digital. We would play a Phandelver game. Strahd is really good and very intense. I went through part of it and had to stop bc I got cancer. I would not recommend if you're a new DM. Its a very different feel from other settings. I just played through the Dragon campaign. I liked it but not looking to play it again. I played Abyss a while back and enjoyed it. He was a brand new DM and was good but I think missed some stuff due to inexperience- mostly not knowing how to prepare sandbox, which this is. we missed a lot I think so I would enjoy playing it again. we're about to play Heist. I was originally planning to go to Mad Mage but have changed my mind. It's all dungeon (With some very cool levels). My groups tend to really like rp (not every group does, I'm ok with almost any style of play). It's been too hard for me to work on making more RP opportunities (getting over a second bout with cancer :) ). There are great reasons for certain races/classes/ backgrounds to go up to certain levels but no real reason for them to keep going. Try as i might the only motivations I could think of to go to the last level were- get rich, get to the bottom of the biggest dungeon, some sort of revenge vs the BBG. I'm not inherently against a long dungeon crawl, and there's some good parts in MM, but my players would not be into and I could not figure out a way to draw them in. You might do a better job. I've heard very good things about Icespire Peak and I think you can expand the campaign. I don't know anything about it. If your more interested in episodic WOC stuff I really like Yawning Portal. I ran some of the adventures when they originally came out (I'm old!) and they were good. I think that would be fun. I've first read through most of Candlekeep and was disappointed. They give you this great background on the library and then you never use it. I read through about 15 episodes. Mind you some of that was during treatment so I was not on my game. Some were good, some were confusing, and some seemed to rely on information from the setting it took place in. I've heard other people like it and will give it a second reading. I've liked the DMDave stuff I've run. He has a lot of products on Roll20, including some campaigns. I think he's really good. There, in the WAY more info than you asked for, is my take on WOC campaigns. I'm not against other settings. I always look for something that's already in Roll20 or very easy to put in.
