Roll20 unplayable..

The last few days of roll20 have been nearly unplayable. I had to resort to other dice rollers, already using discord, and I follow every protocol for optimizing the game. I have been with roll20 since the beginning as a pro users and it just keeps getting worse. I have even resorted to using the dev board just to play with some semblance of stability (and I shouldn't have to do that). I expect some response or explanation why the glitches, lag, dynamic lighting not working, players able to see the whole map, etc.. is just getting intolerable. It's gotten to the point that I opened a foundry account and started learning that, and they have absolutely no lag and a wonderful support system. Don't get me wrong, I love roll20 due to it's versatility on several games (that I play), but having so much lag that I can't even play the game (I charge for my sessions) is unacceptable.
If you want a response or explanation, you should file a problem report at the help center
With Roll20 you get what you get - there is no guarantee offered that everything will work as you expect / they hope. If you're willing to spend some time trying to troubleshoot the issues you are experiencing and try to resolve them, a few things you can try: Multiple browsers.  In the past Firefox worked better for me, but now it seems that an incognito Chrome browser works best. If you use Updated Dynamic Lighting, try disabling Explorer mode - it can definitely cause a performance hit. If after disabling Explorer mode and trying multiple browsers you still experience issues, try disabling dynamic lightning all together.  If that solves your performance issues, you can try using Legacy Dynamic Lighting (but it may not be around much longer.)  Or you can go old school and use fog of war. If you have the option of holding sessions off peak hours you will have a better experience than if you run your games when everyone else is also running games (seems like the most popular times are weekday evenings EST.) Hey Romulous, You outline quite a few aspects here that all sound as though they could be entirely separate issues that are overlapping. If you could elaborate on the following points you bring up: Glitches: What glitches are you encountering? Information on when and where is also helpful here. Lag: This is a very broad subject -- what do you mean by lag in this scenario? Are tokens moving slowly? Dice rolling slowly? Examples are extremely helpful as are reproduction steps. Dynamic Lighting Not Working: I you mention players seeing the whole map, are there other areas where problems are occurring? Are these happening in Legacy vs the current version? Doing some preliminary looking around I did notice the use of some 3rd party extensions which have been known to cause issues. Further we recommend GMs and players enable hardware acceleration wherever possible as it resolve a large number of issues, especially with Dynamic Lighting. Some further follow up questions: Does this affect only a few or ALL games? Names of example games can be helpful here Can you recall any major events around when the issue started? (changed a setting, installed an API script, etc.) When did these issues seem to start? I am hoping we can start getting your games back on track, the first step is getting a handle on what it is we are dealing with :)
I appreciate the response... Hardware acceleration is enabled. All my games suffer from the lag. I only have API scripts that you can legitimately get on roll20. All the issues started about 2 week's ago. I only use one extension: Beyond 20. The lag affects everything, particularly when I change settings on a token. The glitches are minor, like a player being able to see the the whole map or dynamic lighting tearing. I have followed all the recommendations established to optimize the game.
This is great info, thanks! Regarding changing the settings on a token-- which settings are you changing? Is it updating the character sheet or when changing things like auras, token bars, or vision/light settings? I am not seeing anything in the change log that point to any connection. This would make me believe there is likely an external factor that might be playing a role. Do your players run into similar lag on their end as well? Does the issue persist when using incognito mode? What are the other types of lag you are experiencing?
