Leaving the max blank is how you keep the bar from showing at all. In the case of bars, you do not have this option. South: What is your goal here? There may be other ways to accomplish it.

If it's not linking to a sheet value, you can leave a bar unlinked, input the temp HP in the Current and AC in the Max. That will cause the numbers to display continuously, and you can just ignore the bar graphic.

I use the Tooltip for less changeable values like AC, PD, MD in my 13th Age games.
