Custom Countdown

Is there a way to have custom countdown timer, e.g. something in the like of HH:MM:SS counting down with HH:MM:SS  variable? (can be set to a different value each time used). Already saw the Hourglass script, but since it expects an hourglass token, it's not quite what I want / need. And since it should be custom and variable, animated Gifs are not the way to go here...

How would you want this displayed?  Should all players see it, or just the GM? Probably an API script that updates the name of a token, or the name of a macro button, or an entry in the turn order is the way I'd do this, depending on who needs to see it and where it makes the most sense to place it.

An image would be totally ok. I thought of a display HH:MM:SS  ticking down to 00:00:00 (maybe even with a little Sound playing if it reaches its end and stops). The player and GM are able to see the timer at any given time. (Adventure for Cthulhu for example where there is a timer for 1 hour ticking down). I'd place it in one of the top corners of the screen.
