Ahoy there! I'm looking to run a campaign of Torchbearer , a dungeon-crawl and adventure RPG from the makers of Mouse Guard and Burning Wheel . Our group needs 1 more player Players who have played Torchbearer , Mouse Guard or Burning Wheel are welcome to join. Players who are new to Torchbearer , or people who are new to tabletop RPGs in general are also very welcome to join, but should know a few things. See below! THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT TORCHBEARER : -This game is brutal and challenging. It is a throwback to the B/X days of Dungeons & Dragons. It focuses on time and resource management, detailed descriptions of actions, strong teamwork and strategy. It's not for everyone, but those who like it, love it. -It is not played on a grid or map. This is for people with big imaginations. We focus more on the " Theater of the Mind " -The game is rather rules crunchy, though easy enough to pick up. The simple game mechanics can be picked up almost right away, but can take as many as 20 sessions to master. This is a game, first and foremost, and was designed to be something you can actually get skilled at through experience playing it. -Most encounters with monsters or enemies are best sorted through avoidance and cleverness, rather than brash violence. Even when faced with a monstrous spider, it's probably better to drive it off than to try and kill it, as it will absolutely try to kill you if given the chance. -Conflicts require teamwork and strategy above all else. Large HP pools and huge hit/damage modifiers have very little if not nothing to do with the game. It's all about working together and staving off conditions. -The game has some nice mechanics for actual role playing. In fact, it is integral to the game itself. Don't come in to this expecting to use your character as a blank-faced hulk meant for smashing things while you absently roll dice. Characters have Beliefs, Goals and Instincts that are actually tied mechanically in to gameplay! THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT MY GAME : -The game will start with character creation, which involves not only building adventurers, but also building the world they come from. We will work together to build your hometown and even your people. If you were to make, say, a halfling, you would be the primary authority on halflings, and I as the GM can come to you with questions regarding their culture! -The game will be taking place on Wednesdays from 2pm to 5pm Pacific Standard Time (GMT-8), hopefully starting next Wednesday, August 20th. -I'm looking to get a core group of 4-5 players to commit to playing once a week for at least a solid couple of months. If you like the game and my GM style, and we all like your player style (And you follow the Main Rule. See below), that's splendid news, and I would be happy to have you at my virtual table every Wednesday) MAIN RULE: Be nice; Be amicable; Be polite. I'm not taking people who act like children in to this. :) Thanks for the interest! If you need more info, feel free to message me or post here.
