Hey folks! I’m Derrick (he/him) and I’m looking for 1-2 more players to start a fresh Call of the Netherdeep campaign. We had a last minute drop out, so we’re filling the roster back up before we start play. The party currently consists of a archfey warlock, graviturgy wizard, armorer artificer, and light cleric. Applications will close tuesday evening, so don't wait! We want to be up and running for this weekend, and it takes some back and forth for character backgrounds/backstories. ---- This Campaign… Will start at level 1, using a short adventure to take us to level 3, where Call of the Netherdeep begins Will likely take between 7-9 months to complete with a weekly game Honestly, it has some guiding rails. Don’t expect a full sandbox adventure like some of the other published DnD modules Is pretty roleplay heavy, but has some amazingly well designed dungeons and battles too ---- About Me / My DM Style I’m a 32 year old gay dude from the cold Canadian prairies. I’ve been DMing on and off (mostly on!) for the last 15 years, and have been running 5E for 5 years now. I love telling character-focused stories, and working with my players to make sure their characters fit in the world, and can be part of the story we’re telling together. I’m a game designer/developer by trade, so I also enjoy creating custom rewards and mechanics for my groups (and know how to keep it balanced!). Some things useful to know about my DM style: Rule of cool is cool, but not always. Magic is a sticky spot for me to play by the rules with. Eldritch Blast can’t damage objects, Scorcher can’t set things on fire, Water Sphere can’t drown anybody, etc My campaigns tend to be 60:40 RP:Adventuring, but Call of the Netherdeep is an RP-heavy campaign, that I can see skewing to 70:30 I like to reward people who stick to their character, even when it works against them I’ve made the decision to leave behind Forgotten Realms, and pick up Exandria as my new setting of choice. Leaving behind Tolkien-fantasy is hard, but Exandria does a lot for inclusion in gaming (and has much less world lore you need to know, thank gosh) Some notable house rules: Get both a feat and ASI every 4 levels (I’ve found lots of players use it for mechanically weaker RP-based options) Skill checks in combat cost your action as normal, but if your check fails you get your action back (allows a lot more creativity in combat) Success at a cost: if you fail a d20 by 3 or less, you can choose to succeed but take a point of exhaustion The Game I require both voice and video for games; video adds a lot more empathy to the experience Will be using a Discord for communication and Roll20 for playing Weekly on Sundays from 5pm~9pm (UTC-6) What we’re looking for in other players: Ideally you are 25+ years old, but open to anybody over 18 (recap, our ages currently are 31, 32, and 41) I am a tiny bit of a Critter; if you are a diehard critter who expects a Mercer-like experience or faithful canon, this may not be the campaign for you. If you’ve never watched Critical Role or know anything about Exandria, that’s totally fine! No experience with Exandria required! I’m happy to help fill in any knowledge gaps and learn alongside you Players who enjoy building backstories that can be tied into the campaign “New school” mindset players. To me, this means more spirit of inclusion, collaborative storytelling (as opposed to DM vs Player), and making character-based decisions If you’re interested, click through to the listing and find some character creation and application info there! https://app.roll20.net/lfg/listing/334960/call-of-the-netherdeep Note: this is a FREE game, but it is greatly appreciated if people are willing to help cover the cost of the module itself, as well as the Pro subscription.
