unable to change my color under my avatar in a game session

I am unable to change color for 3D dice/pings etc.  The color choice does not appear at all when the color box is clicked on. in 'Draw' mode color can be selected for drawing, but the main color selection (default) does not work at all. This is in all of my games.
Starting with the basic questions: Are you using a supported browser (Firefox or Chrome)? If so, does the problem persist in an incognito/private window (to rule out any browser extension conflicts)?
Windows 11, Chrome (both up to date). I don't use a VPN, and hadn't considered using incognito. I generally don't.  How can incognito affect Roll 20? I will try incognito mode and reply shortly.
Incognito mode has no effect
I am also unable to paste text into a text box using the 'draw' mode.

Hmm ... so much for the easy answers. I wonder if this is something unintuitive with the settings. If you make a game with yourself as the GM, do you still have the problem? There's a chance the audio/video settings on the GM's end affects the color selector. Here are the settings I use: (At least, that's something to consider regarding the color selector problem. The text-paste issue is another matter; I'm not sure what's up with that.)

Even with chat tech disabled, the player color selector works in my games, and for me in games set up that way in which I play.  If it hasn't already been done, it would be worth clearing cache and deleting all Roll20 related cookies.

It is my game with me as GM and the problem is consistent whether I log in as GM or player. My A/V settings have never affected it before, and I tried tinkering them and reloading already.

I'll try clearing cookies, but I'm set up to auto-clear when I shut down so I doubt it's cookies.
nothing including a full system reboot has had any effect on either issue. currently 'attempting' to set up a table for a game before sending invites to my players.
I'm curious if anyone else is having similar issues

additionally Roll 20 has been 'reminding me' about dark mode every time I log into a game (any game) even though I have X and DISMISS-ed it many times. I've even turned it on and off multiple times to get it to leave me alone. Personally I don't understand why it was created at all and have no use for it. I manage my light levels through my system settings. I wonder if it's connected?

That is a symptom of clearing cookies each time you shutdown.  The cookies tell it whether it has told you about dark mode before or not. Is there another computer you could log in through (friend, relative)?  Then you could be sure whether this is actually a Roll20 problem, or a configuration conflict with your browser/OS.

I can log out and log back in to Roll20, and/or open a second iteration (of Roll20) in a new tab or window, without clearing cookies, and it persists. When I leave one game and open another in the same tab or exit and re-enter a game  it still does it. Windows 8, 10, & 11, all running chrome. same issues.
I am but a humble and simple user and not a code monkey, BUT I understand that the same actions and activities should produce the same results consistently. When they don't something has changed. My use patterns and behaviors have remained consistent, ergo: my results should remain consistent.

Interesting.&nbsp; I only get that when I clear cookies, but apparently your browser/computer works differently than mine. I would recommend working through each step of the troubleshooting guide.&nbsp; <a href="https://wiki.roll20.net/Solving_Technical_Issues" rel="nofollow">https://wiki.roll20.net/Solving_Technical_Issues</a>
Been thru the trouble shooting guide. I thought the issue might relate to chrome extensions, turned both off. the dark mode notification desisted (for now) but still not able to change colors. interestingly my wife can choose colors, even in my game where I cannot, but she cannot paste text into a 'draw' text box either, although we have identical hardware and are running the same OS + browser. curiouser and curiouser. I've been through the linked troubleshooter. I will work thru it again. [but I'd much rather be setting up my game :( ]
OKAY, extra confused now. The color (which I still can't change) is a dark mauve pink, and rolling 3D dice results in dark blue dice????

Just to make double darn sure that it isn't something basic, are you clicking here to change your color? (Apologies, but this has happened before and it's best to rule out the obvious). To answer your earlier question, incognito mode is a useful way to quickly rule out most extensions and cookies. Not everybody is aware of their browser setup. It's not perfect (extensions can be whitelisted for incognito, but it's a good triage step, since people rarely do this). I can verify that I can change my color, so lets look at some more possibilities: Try manually signing out and then back in. (Roll20 could be hanging onto a setting) See if the issue persists when you are signed into a game as a player. (Rules out GM-specific settings) Try signing in with a&nbsp; Dummy Account . (Rules out account-based issues) Try using Firefox (I saw that Sarah had suggested it, but didn't see a confirmation that you had tried it (rules out Chrome issues) Based on the results of those, it might suggest other solutions or indicate the need of capturing a Console Log ( Chrome ,&nbsp; Firefox ) and filing a&nbsp; Help Center Request .
Yes, (boy don't you know it, lowest common denominator, start simplest and work up ;) ) I klick on the color square next to my name (like I have since 2017). NOTHING HAPPENS. I no longer get a drop down box at all. Left single, left double, and right clicked just in case. No Dropdown box.&nbsp; I have signed in and out and in as player and in as GM and in and out of multiple games where I am the GM and where I am not.&nbsp; Reloaded Roll20, same window different window, same window different tab, shut down system and rebooted. turned browser extensions on and off.&nbsp; will look at dummy account. Thank you for the link and explanation of using a dummy account :) NOT CHANGING MY BROWSER I have used firefox before I don't like it. I am using Win 11 and Chrome fully up to date. I don't use incognito but did try it to rule it out. it didn't help. the color issue bugs me but not being able to paste text into a Draw text box is a bigger issue. I don't want to manually retype everything I want to post on the players' journal page that I use as a player landing page. (Carpal, cubital, and arthritis).&nbsp;

Whenever I make a suggestion to try the other supported browser, it's to try and narrow down where the problem lies. If switching to Firefox solves the issue, then we know that the problem almost certainly lies in Chrome or its installation. It's for diagnostic purposes, not meant as a solution. I just updated my Chrome installation just to verify it wasn't something new about Chrome. You definitely have an unusual problem. At this point, we've gone through most of the simple fixes, and It's likely something that would require dev intervention (using the links I posted above). That Console Log in particular should help them understand what your browser is doing and why you are not seeing the intended behavior.

lost the better part of the day chasing this rabbit already. nothing accomplished towards game. As long as the tabletop ' works' more or less, I'll just rely less on Roll20 and more on Discord. The voice and video have never worked well. I gave up on them several years ago and started using discord. At least I'm sure it is at my end somewhere (presuming that others aren't having the same issues ) I sure miss the days of yore, with a wood pencil, a notebook, one set of dice, and a shared rulebook. &nbsp; As a free level user I can't get too bent out of shape about it, but if I could afford to subscribe it would make me think twice about it for sure. $ is short and hard to come by, and I would expect anything I pay for, especially in a recurring fee subscription, to simply work right all the time every time.&nbsp; Thank you sincerely for your assistance, it has been very much appreciated. I will continue to tinker with it (as I'm not very good at letting go of little things) and if I do find my solution I'll post it up for anyone else who may have similar issues. Great community here. Nice to type with real humans and not be shunted around an automated system.&nbsp; GOOD GAMING, clear skies and far travels to everyone who tried to help, good on ya!&nbsp; TTFN.

Avatar must be positioned at bottom to access the color menu
Sarge said: Avatar must be positioned at bottom to access the color menu Glad you found a solution for this and I am amazed about Roll20s lack of implementing things correctly... Meaning that the color switcher only appears when avatars set at the bottom... I mean they give us the option to move avatars since when?

Thanks for finding the solution, Sarge! This will help other folks with the same issue. Now that the answer is known, it's probably a good idea to report the whole thing. I will as well.

Good find, Sarge. Hopefully this report leads to a fix for that. Sarge said: Avatar must be positioned at bottom to access the color menu
Thank you for posting the solution, Sarge!
It was your suggestion, Sarah, that cued me to it. I started by setting everything back to default and making each change I use one at a time until I found it. It is very unintuitive, and shouldn't happen, but it is what it is. I would expect it to pop the option box up in the same place or nearby ONSCREEN when you click on it. Also, right clicking a token as GM sometimes brings part of the options box up offscreen and you need to adjust your screen position to get all of your options to display on screen. A clue to the (script?) issue that causes both. No access boxes should ever 'appear' offscreen. The text paste issue : You cannot right click paste text into a text box BUT you can control+V paste text. I rarely use keyboard shortcuts and found it by accident while looking at a basic MS keyboard shortcuts list. Sarah R. Cohen said: Hmm ... so much for the easy answers. On the matter of pasting text: I have found it generally easier and more reliable to type a doc in a processor, paste it into an image with paint, such as a scroll or parchment, and then upload it to Roll 20. This prevents internet connection issues from losing your text, and gives you whatever spelling and grammar checks you're used to. My desire to paste text to the tabletop was to make the most use of the marvelous landing page image with the blank book and parchments, (seen in my previous post) to put table specific info onto the blank pages.
