Making Marketplace Modules for 5e - Copyrighted Materials Question

I build my own custom (5e-based) modules in Roll20. Now, I'd like to make new ones to sell in the marketplace. I've searched the Forums, bogs, and other resources looking for answers to the following specific questions, but I'm unable to find complete answers. 1) I currently use monsters that I drag and drop from purchased compendiums, so that I don't have to recreate every monster for my modules. Can I embed monsters from 5e compendium materials into my marketplace module, or will I need to recreate every monster with a new NPC sheet and original token art? 2) If I have to recreate monsters with new character sheets and token art, are some monsters off-limits due to copyright restrictions (i.e., beholders)? 3) Can I use the Roll20 5e character sheet to generate characters and NPCs within my marketplace module, or will I need to create my own character sheets? Thank you! Chris

Hi Daddicus_Rex! This is not legal advice, nor binding in any way, but in general: Purchased compendium monsters cannot be used in another commercial project (or even re-published for free). If using any art, verify that you have permission to use it. Don't assume. (for instance, even the 5e token ring art is protected). Consult the SRD (System Reference Document) and the OGL (Open Gaming License)—documents available from WIzards of the Coast—for what items are protected. Yes you can use Roll20's sheet to create a module. In fact, this is the best way to do it. Rules of thumb: If in doubt over whether something might be allowable, don't do it. If need be, consult a lawyer. Hopefully, other Marketplace creators who have built and sold modules will be able to give more specific advice.
Thank you for pointing out the SRD and OGL. I should have thought of those, but didn't. Glad I asked. I hope others will also respond--especially content creators who have faced these challenges. Cheers!
