I was watching a tutorial roll20 video on youtube and the guy placed several of the same monster down and then clicked on some of them and changed the token it used to vary up the monsters. Is this an API script he used or is it a function I haven't figured out how to use?

My guess is that the video was showing a rollable table turned into a token. If you link the video and give me a time point I can tell you for sure.

Yes, he is using Rollable Tables as tokens. 1) Create a Rollable Table with all the images you want and then turn it into a token (via token button) 2) Right click on the token and deselect "Is Drawing" 3) Set up the token you would a normal token by linking it to a character sheet etc. Now you have a token that can change what image is showing.
