Lag when loading map

I've created a rather large map (a cave complex with more than 50 "rooms"). Originally I imported a large .png file of the complex and blocked out the passages with dynamic lighting. While slow for me, the lag was too much for my players. I read some of the posts on the forums on how to reduce the lag, i.e. change to .jpg, change the color depth, shrink the image size, etc. but it still didn't improve response. Ultimately, I decided that the map itself was causing the problem and simply removed the map layer, as the caves were already fixed in the lighting layer. However, I've loaded up the empty "map" and it's still incredibly slow. The grid is 125x125, consisting of just the dynamic light layer and several dozen tokens. I've even purged the chat cache and archived my old maps but it didn't help. As GM, the map is slow to move around, even when zooming out; when I log in as a player, the map just freezes when I try to scroll. Any suggestions?

What's the image resolution? Did you keep it down to 72 dpi/ppi?
The original .png was bigger than 72 but when I deleted it and put in the .jpg, it was 70. Now, there is nothing but the light layer. Would the original image still be affecting it?

The problem has been identified as a map using a lot of freehand drawings on the DL layer. Do not use Freehand on the DL layer, it will lag your computer like this.
Good to know, thank you. Time to start redrawing.
