Chrome issue switched me to Firefox, but it is very slow.

I know this has been asked on the forum before, but all posts I have found thus far are dated  quite a bit. Is there a way to speed up Firefox while using roll20? I had been using Chrome quite happily until it started doing this (See screen shot below).  This issue only started within the last few months. Meaning I had no issue using the animated  area effect tokens on Chrome prior. But something changed and now they quickly switch over to  the grey masked appearance. When it happens to me, my players see it too.  So I switched to  Firefox and 4 game sessions in I have not yet had that issue, but its very laggy with roll20.  This seems to be only on my side as all my players use Chrome. Does anyone know a way to speed up Firefox, or better yet correct the issue with Chrome?

Probably not the answer you are looking for, but I wouldn't recommend using any animations at all.  Roll20 has a hard time handling animations - they always cause additional lag.  In addition, if you are using maps larger than 25x25 try reducing their size.  Try launching both browers in incognito / private mode and see if you still have issues. When it comes to high performance on Roll20, you'll want to use as few bells and whistles as possible. -Adam
First thing to check: Under Firefox > Preferences > Privacy and Security > Forms and Autofill, is the Autofill addesses box unchecked? Not sure if this is your issue, but unchecking that box a couple of years ago solved my own performance problem on Firefox: updating a token bubble changed from a five-second slog to practically instantaneous. You can find other things to try on the Community Wiki and the Roll20 Help Cener: Optimizing Roll20 Performance (Community Wiki) Roll20 System Recommendations (Roll20 Help Center) Good luck, and please let us know what, if anything, ends up working. (Also, please let us know if you find out what's going on with your animation error on Chrome; sadly, I don't have much insight there.)

Sarah's tip (autofill) is the one I usually give, and is a known FF performance hindrance.
Chrome still runs just as fast as ever., just with the animated mask issues. I'm at a loss as to what changed with Chrome. It worked fine until a couple moths back. Adam, I have heard the exact same things. Not liking animated tokens and using smaller maps. Its an option, but not one I'm hoping to be stuck with. Sarah, I checked Firefox and Autofill (Both options) are off.  Thank you for the links! Gauss, Firefox hardware acceleration is on. Thank you all for the suggestions. I'm going to keep working at this and will hopefully find a solution.
And I also tried the Private/Incognito tabs. No noticeable change.

You can also try an unsupported browser. If it works, it works! I have a friend who only gets good performance out of Edge.
Thank you Keith. Hoping to stick with one browser for everything but, as you said, if it works...

I know what you mean. I stick with Chrome mostly because I have a Chromebook, so it's just easier.
