WHY are some of the Links now Purple others are grey?

Shouldn't all links be grey now?

Purple represents visited links. Grey are unvisited.

I was going to post that the purple threads are ones in which you have posted.  But it looks like there might be a couple purple ones for me that I haven't posted in (unless I posted and deleted it...), so I don't know.  If that is what they are going for, I certainly approve of having that visual indicator. Edit: Kieth has the right of it, I think.  I bounce back and forth between a couple machines on work days, and didn't think about how the thread tracking cookies would be different between the 2 machines.  lol

This seems to be new as earlier today when enabling dark mode this was NOT the case! And I can tell you that. It is NOT the case with visited Threads as I just tested it. And it is also not for threads you have posted... keithcurtis said: Purple represents visited links. Grey are unvisited.

As said, I tested it... it is neither read threads nor ones I have commented on that are purple / grey! Just tested it before posting this by reading a thread and then coming back... it was still purple! Also the ones I have posted in... those are still purple sometimes and NOT grey... And since there is absolutely no visual cue about this in light mode, why is it now in dark mode? Before the implementation of Dark mode for Roll20 itself, links were just as grey as they are now. Those links do not even change color when switching modes! And before we all continue Speculating what this change means, why not have Roll20 answer this question for us? EDIT: Just tested this in Light mode: You can BARELY see the different color on the second link... Contrast-wise this is a total DESASTER! (Also accessibility-wise!) If your eyes are not that good or you are color blind, you are NOT able to see any difference here! INTERESTING thing I just noticed: "Mark All Viewed" SHOULD in theory make ALL Links purple as they are officially marked as viewed. What actually happens? Right! NOTHING! EDIT 2:  Keith is right! Purple are links already visited, grey ones are new! But again a very questionable choice! I enabled dark mode and was GLAD for the grey Links instead of purple! NOW, the majority of links is purple and this is a PAIN on the black background with dark mode! MAYBE they have the grace to change things back? (from purple to something else). And with this they should also change the color for light mode as well (see screenshot above!) EDIT 3: Speaking of Contrast and Issues with this: White Font on light green background... this is by far the worst contrast-wise! Although this one is really BAD, too: Other Perks are OKAY (not good, but nod bad either!) EDIT 4: Can you spot the difference? Upper of those arrows is slightly purple (sign you have upvoted a topic) while the other one is grey... I am out of words for this one! EDIT 5: Another Bug that should NOT be a thing with dark mode IF it was fixed prior to this change in light mode! Page Toolbar in forums. Note what happens if you hover over the "OLDER" Button: The button is just purple now. You are NOT able to read ANYTHING written on there! And AS STATED before: this bug ALREADY EXISTS in light mode! I don't get it... I REALLY DON'T!!! EDIT 6: I mentioned THIS THREAD in my Report on the Portal for this as you are not able to upload any Images on suggestions there! EDIT 7: Inconsistent BUTTON BEHAVIOR (Analog for Light mode!) Buttons on Start Page. If you hover over the first or second, they turn light purple (it just gets highlighted basically). HOWEVER if you hover over the last one: It also gets highlighted just like the other two before. So what's the difference in having those different Buttons in the first place? Just to show that the latter is only for PRO Subscribers? EDIT 8: NO SPACING between text and Button: Kraynic said: TheMarkus1204 said: And I can tell you that. a:link  a:visited  a:hover  a:active  are all CSS selectors. It is common on many sites to style them differently. It's easy to fix on Stylus if you don't like it. It is possible you weren't seeing it earlier because the links had not been visited after the change was instituted.

It is possible you weren't seeing it earlier because the links had not been visited after the change was instituted. Probably, cause as soon as I read the news "Dark mode finally available outside VTT" I decided to switch... BUT I can say this, links had no different color in light mode when switching. This was introduced later on after the change was rolled out! (And TBH it is WORSE than it was previously with all links being grey in Dark mode in regards to contrast! NOW, even Lightmode is more pleasant to look at regarding the forums!) But STILL I do NOT get why they have NOT addressed all things listed in my first post about it (Edits 1 - 8). Those things were clearly to see for EVERYONE! And since they were mentioned already for lightmode (nearly the same bugs) I REALLY do not get why they were not fixed already! As for Stylus: Although it is need to have some smaller scripts for things I do NOT want to rewrite the CSS for all Roll20 (since it can cause other, way more serious bugs) EDIT: They seemed to rolled back the change as now all links are grey again! THANK GOODNESS!
FYI: This is super distracting and confusing... Sometimes less is more -.-

Came home, opened roll20 and bam... links are purple... It is ANNOYING as hell to be a guniea pig just for their Experiments... GLAD they rolled that change back! EDIT: I REALLY don't know why, but it is back... but ONLY in Chrome... In Firefox everything is ok. With latest chrome I have those purple Links... (No Stylus enabled for this) EDIT 2: In Chrome Private Mode this is NOT the case either!
Yea, purple is back... I feel like we have to choose thee lesser between two Evil: Pink bomb or Purple avalance -.-

Even if I use chrome in private mode all links are grey as expected... Only if I use chrome normally, ALL visited links are purple... This needs to go away ASAP as it is a nightmare accessibility-wise...

IIRC, the visited property is stored by the browser and may not propagate across devices, browsers or profiles. For those using a stylus style and who wish to override this personally, add: .forum a:visited{ color: var(--color-grayscale2) !important;} for all gray or .forum a:visited{ color: var(--color-primary-text) !important;} For all purple. If you go this route, remember to turn off stylus when reporting any style observations. It only confuses things.

THANK you very much Keith, but I seriously hope Roll20 will get to the point they remove this... keithcurtis said: IIRC, the visited property is stored by the browser and may not propagate across devices, browsers or profiles. Non the less, even if I visit a thread in either chrome incognito or firefox they stay grey and do not turn purple... keithcurtis said: IIRC, the visited property is stored by the browser and may not propagate across devices, browsers or profiles. So there seems to be something "wrong" with Chrome! Firefox is my primary browser.  I have the purple for all threads that I have visited and grey for those I haven't.

Firefox normal, NOT incognito. I should have said that previously. I use Chrome as my standard browser and have the latest version installed. With this, I have the purple links if visited, grey if not. If I use Chrome Incognito, all links are grey as expected. Just tested, Firefox also gets me the purple links if visited... I really wonder if the developers know how to build websites to be accessible for all kind of people! Purple on gray / black is AS BAD if not WORSE than pink on white! Thanks to the Stylus Script at least the links stay grey in Darkmode... keithcurtis said: TheMarkus1204 said: Non the less, even if I visit a thread in either chrome incognito or firefox they stay grey and do not turn purple...
