Hey all! Welcome to the D&D Homebrewery! You can call me swizzle, swizz, whatever you want really! I have been playing and DMing D&D since I was about 7 or 8 years old. Currently 32 I am looking to bring all of my experience running and playing games to some new tables! I have currently been running a homebrew Ravenloft campaign with the same players for well over a year now, and my campaign before that lasted about a year as well. I would say my style focuses mostly on fun, realness, difficulty, and did I mention fun? This will be a sandbox style game where the players drive the story and choose what happens and where to go! In the words of one of my players in my current Ravenloft campaign - "Relaxed overall vibe to sessions. Intense action. Extremely well balanced combat scenes. Always feel on the fine edge between success or failure, which makes every decision seem significant. Lots of laughter no matter how intense the moment. Unusual and interesting puzzles and scenarios. A 4 hour session of play feels like an hour" I do change some of the rules from RAW 5e, mostly when they make no sense or for general ease of play and enjoyment, such as potions only taking a bonus action in my games. Even though this is a paid game I am still looking for the right players. I think having a group that is aligned on what it's goals are and what they enjoy doing is going to be the most successful and fun for everyone involved. I also try to run very inclusive tables, all are welcome at the virtual table of Swizzle (as long as you are an adult!). I also like to tailor my content to my group. I frequently will poll my players on how things have been going, what they've enjoyed, what they want more/less of, that kind of thing. I also like to incorporate backstories into my world, and the best way to have your own "arc" is to write a great backstory! All of my maps that I use in my games are made custom by me using Inkarnate. Now for the long winded part of my write up, the intro to my world, Etharia! Enjoy! Peace. Just peace. This has been a time of peace in the land of Etharia. The only true time of peace here amongst all the blood that stains the pages of it's history. The 2 beacons of the free humanoid world, The Kingdom of Montverde, and it's friendly larger compatriot The Diveran Dynasty have had a treaty in effect for the past 73 years. Ruled from their vastly different capitals of Orentheim and Casteross respectively, people have prospered. Orentheim, a massive sprawling city, right on the banks of both the Abyss Ocean and it's beautiful white sand beaches, and The Mahter, the river that is the lifeblood of these lands. The largest known port City in the world, Orentheim is the best and biggest player in the global import and export trade. 600-700 some odd miles away lies the castle fortress that is Casteross. Originally built by the mountain dwarves it has since expanded and is now home to many of the differing free people of this land. Nestled deep within the SunderSea Mountain range and positioned right at the feet of the mighty rivers of these lands, The Mahter and The Narrows. Right where they disappear beneath the mountains in a spray of water and mist. The adventure will be starting near Elban which is a city nestled in the foothills of the Tiraloc peaks sitting on the edge of the lake that births The Mahter, the largest known river in all of Etharia. Mostly human, dwarves, and gnomes. A lot of miners live here and the city does decent business sending things down the river and also across the rolling greenlands to the east to Port Vasper where things can be shipped all over the world, and even down into the Vutha Swamp that is home to many cultures including Lizard Folk and Sea Elves. A very blue collar town, work hard play hard, with a good mix of taverns, other "entertainment" venues, and even an ampitheater where local bards and performers will have grand shows. On the final day of every tenday a sort of impromptu party is held in the ampitheater. People will sing, and dance, and juggle, and play musical instruments. Some merchants set up little pop up booths to sell interesting wares, and the liquor flows. It is a little bit of relaxation and merriment at the end of a long 9 days of work, and for most that means manual labor in the mines. There are various shops around town offering a variety of services and products, as well as a few inns and taverns where travelers may find respite from the roads and wilderness that are rife with dangerous people and creatures. You all have your own reasons for traveling to this city, and are currently traveling there and getting rather close. Some of you may be coming from a long ways and it has been a difficult and arduous journey, while for others Elban may not be far from home. One thing is for certain. Things are about to get interesting. To the south of Elban curving around the foothills to the southwest sprawls the Locwood. A dense forest that is an important source of materials and game for the people who live in or near it. It also comes with its fair share of dangers. It is said parts of the wood grow especially dark and are best avoided, and there are stories of many fearsome beasts that call the Locwood their home. Occasionally, a person or two will venture in to be never heard from again, but typically as long as you are respectful you will be fine. Trees have long memories, and collectively, forests longer still. To the west, across the lake, rise the Tiraloc Peaks. Named for the massive lake to the south that they seem to spring out of. Impossibly tall, with some of the tallest peaks residing permanently within a layer of clouds. The rock of the mountains themselves is gray with a strong tint of gold, and trees dot the entirety of the peaks. Interestingly enough, even though they rise to the elevation where you typically see permafrost and snow, there is no snow seen on these mountains. Right in the center of the peaks rises the largest peak of them all. It dwarfs the surrounding peaks by comparison and it appears that it goes on quite a ways past the clouds judging by how thick it is where it disappears. Many mountain rivers make their way down through the various peaks and foothills, all making their way to the Mahter and increasing its flow ever more. It is truly an impressive sight and makes you feel very small by comparison. Even with all the evil that still plagues this land, and every other, people have prospered. The defeat of Claxxantumarius near 100 years ago signaled this true period of peace. Defeat is a rather strong word for what happened however. Simply not being allowed to invade and take control is not real and final defeat. But 100 years of no Claxx west of The Gorge is its own form of victory. Still, there have been whispers lately. Tensions seem to be growing, and there is a heavy presence in the air. Strange things have been crossing over into Divera from Claxxantumarius. There has been talk of walking skeletons and other monstrosities roaming the country sides. Things feel....different than last time. 100 years ago the peoples of Etharia rose up to keep their land free. How will the story write itself this time around? Roll20 will be used for a VTT and cams and then voice will be over discord. The day and time will be discussed and set by the group as a whole. If you would like to know more please hit me up on here or you can DM me on discord at Swizzle#0237. From there we can set up a time to chat for 10-15 minutes to make sure that this is a good fit for everyone involved! If it is I will invite you to the discord server which has some more detailed information on some of the locations I mentioned in the intro as well as some others, and hand drawn maps of the world by me (I'm no artist but they get the job done). This is a paid game at the rate of $3/hour per player with session 0 and the 1st real session being free! Sessions can be anywhere from 3-5 hours depending on what is happening and availability of players (I prefer not to end a session mid combat just because we hit 3 hours). If you are part of a group that is looking for a DM that is great as well and I don't mind newer players! Thanks for reading and have a great day!
