The Schedule: Games will be played during the week, with very rare listings on weekends. The start time will almost always be the same: 10:00pm EST. Games will run ~3 hours. Expect between 1 and 4 games per week. Players will generally be limited to participating in only 1 per week, but exceptions may be made. The System: D&D 5E, with only a few house rules. Some but not all expanded official content will be utilized. We'll be starting at level 3. Playable races are limited to Human, Elf, Half-Elf, Dwarf, and Halfling. The World: A low-magic fantasy homebrew world, set in an early renaissance period. The game will center around a massive city called Cell'Atum, and the wildlands beyond its walls. DISCLAIMER: This game will contain R-rated levels of language and strong violence. It will contain infrequent sexual themes, and disturbing situations such as torture. The Campaign: Although the game will be episodic, with smaller missions and party sizes, there will be a persistent ongoing narrative. The players are all members of a secret organization called The Gloamguard. The Gloamguard are the shadowy protectors of civilization. Their creed fuels the low-magic nature of the world: magic, for all except The Gloamguard themselves, is illegal. Those reported to be using it will be quickly snatched up by the Gloamguard. This includes the worshiping of gods, communing with demons, and harboring of monsters or other unnatural creatures. The Gloamguard's Creed: "To defend civilization against monsters, against demons, against gods and their followers, against magic and its practitioners. To safekeep forbidden knowledge and weapons, and to use them for only this, our purpose. To keep no other allegiances, and to live by no other creed. This is my vow, my oath. I am Gloamguard." The Game Itself: We run a very different brand of D&D than most game masters you'll have played with before. The actual rolling of dice and using abilities play a comparatively small role, with the emphasis being on planning, information gathering, and decision making. Your characters will face down adversaries far outside the scope of what you'd find in the 5E Monster Manual, and engaging them in direct combat will lead to almost certain death. Instead, you'll have to carefully learn and concoct schemes to defeat them. This can occur all within one session, or be more itemized. The amount of combat can vary heavily from session-to-session. Here are a few examples: Assault the stronghold of a known cult in the city's sewers. This session will be almost entirely combat, but will still require careful tactics and strategy based on information given to the players at the start of the session. Kill a wizard in the city. You could expect this mission to involve some scouting, some subterfuge, and almost certainly end with a fight against a wizard. Stop a shipment of magical items. You could almost certainly solve this problem through combat, but there may be a way to do so without a drop of blood being spilt. Infiltrate a social function and learn what some people are up to. This mission, barring catastrophic failure, will almost certainly not involve combat, and you can expect that your intel will feed into a later "raid"-type mission where combat will be done by other characters. Party Siz e: Most sessions will be for 3-5 players, with very rare exceptions. Availability will be based on the character's division, with classes being broken up into different divisions of the Gloamguard. The Order of Chancel: Cleric, Monk, Paladin The Order of Magic: Sorcerer, Warlock, Wizard The Order of Wilds: Barbarian, Druid, Ranger The Order of Secrets: Rogue, Bard The Order of Violence: Fighter One mission, for instance, may call for a member of the Order of Chancel, a member of the Order of Wilds, and three members in any combination from the Orders of Violence or Magic. Another mission might be much more restrictive, calling for three members of the Order of Secrets. The advantage of this system is that all players on a given mission will have a job, and will play crucial roles in the completion of the mission, rather than merely being background pieces. Player Characters : Due to the nature of the setting, importing characters from other games isn't really possible, and character backgrounds will be fairly limited. We will work together on deciding something that works well for you, and fits with the game.
