Brigands plague the Gnarley Forest. The tracks through the forest are perilous enough in normal times, but now brigandry in the forest has markedly increased, and the brigands themselves show an unusually high level of organization and coordination. Not even the Rangers of the Gnarley seem able to stem the upsurge in brigandry in their domain. So it is that the leading merchants of the town of Narwell on the Wild Coast have commissioned you to look into the rise in brigandry and stop the attacks. You are offered a tidy sum of gold for the successful completion of your mission, plus whatever booty you can obtain from the brigands. The merchants will also outfit your expedition with riding horses and other supplies (but not arms or armor).  The merchants have arranged for you to accompany a small caravan scheduled to go into the forest in two days’ time. It is carrying cloth from Almor and wine from Onnwal, and will meet up with a much larger caravan once it reaches the village of Hommlet on the far side of the forest.  Once the caravan is safely seen to that point, your mission is over, assuming you have managed to retrieve intelligence about the bandits, or even managed to inflict a serious blow to them. You should give a complete report to Burne, the Most Worshipful Mage of Hommlet, who will pay you for your service.    ====================== Hi everybody! We have four players and there's room for two more.  New players are especially welcome, just be aware that 1st edition isn't as forgiving as 5th edition. It's ok if you don't have any experience with 1E, we'll teach you. Three of the players in the group usually play 5E so you'll be in good company.  The game has been running for a month and a half, so it's not like you will have missed much. Please note that this is a TEXT-BASED game under AD&D 1st edition. It plays just like a regular D&D game except you're typing and not talking.  There won't be any voice used, so no need to get a microphone or headset.  If you're shy or if you experience lots of social anxiety or if you are uncomfortable speaking in Discord for any reason, hopefully this is the game for you.  There is an emphasis on RP in our Sunday sessions. I'd say the ratio of RP to combat is 70% to 30%. Players who like play-by-post RP between sessions are a plus. When:  12 noon to 5 pm, Pacific time on Sunday afternoons. That's 1200 to 1700 PST. You might have to adjust for your local time zone. I'm open to other time slots but this is the one that works best for me. Setting:  The game is set in a homebrewed version of Greyhawk. You can find more information about Greyhawk here:  Canonfire  and  Greyhawk Wiki Books used:  Players' Handbook and Oriental Adventures. To apply for this game:  Please send me a PM and introduce yourself. Tell me a little bit about yourself and why this game appeals to you. In your PM, please be sure to answer each of the following questions. I recognize this is a little formal, but I use these questions so I can understand potential players, and their past experiences. When answering the questions, more detail is generally preferred, so please take your time and don't rush. How would you play an evil character? (I just want to understand your creative thought process; evil PCs aren’t allowed in the game.) What don't you want to see in your games under any circumstances? What do you think is cool in the game? Tell me about a cool moment in a game you were in? What do you think isn't cool? Tell me about such a moment in a previous game, either as a DM or player? How would you introduce your character to the rest of the party? What do you think about giving player narrative agency during the game? What does that mean to you? What setting would you like to play in but haven't yet? What is a cool character concept that you haven't played yet? Who would you cast to play them? (Note that character creation in 1E is more restrictive than 5E but for purposes of this question, you can use any concept from any edition of D&D or any non-D&D game.) What are your opinions regarding homebrewed rules? What are your thoughts regarding intra-party conflict? What are your expectations for the campaign? What are your expectations from me as your DM? What are your expectations from the other players? What constitutes metagaming in your eyes? Any questions for me? About the world? About the campaign as a whole? Thanks for reading, everyone! I hope to game with you soon!

Hi people reading this! I'm in this game, one of the new to 1E folks Taliesin mentioned, playing the half-elf cleric, and I'm really loving it. Taliesin lets us roleplay amongst ourselves quite a lot and in general this game has allowed for a lot of creativity and interesting choices. (For instance, in a recent session we came upon a small shrine to a god of warriors and smiths with a well for votive offerings, and my character dropped half her silver arrows and one of her two spears into the well as an offering to the god; Taliesin gave her remaining spear a permanent spell of detect undead that makes the weapon glow when something undead is near. It was really cool to have the world respond to something that was done mainly for fun / RP purposes on my end!) They're also really good about RPing and answering questions between games and in general I really like Taliesin as a GM; they have decades of experience that makes play feel seamless and organic.
Thanks, Moondancer.  There'a a good mix of everything in this game, ranging from intense combat to in-depth role-playing and interesting puzzles/mysteries. You can think of it as a "rules-light" version of 5E, LOL. Anyway, I hope to hear from all y'all soon.
