Game Blurb Waterdeep: The Crown of the North. Outside the city, the world has been thrown into chaos. Demon lords have risen, cults have struck throughout the Sword Coast, and now the City of Splendors is facing its own crises that threaten to rip it apart at the seams. Over the past month, the Zhentarim and Xanathar Guilds have begun clashing in broad daylight, and guard patrols have increased tenfold. Rumors of a famous thief from a hundred years ago called The Black Viper returning from the past fly from lips highborn and low. Murders of elves and half-elves in the lower districts of the city are occurring weekly, and accusations seem to be pointing directly towards the newly formed Eilistraeen sanctuary. And on top of it all, Dagult Neverember, previous Open Lord of Waterdeep, has stashed half a million gold somewhere in the city...and it seems everyone is racing for the same prize. Dropped in the middle of it all, you come in. In a city rife with intrigue, clever words and good friends can serve you better than an open blade. Though, a sharp knife and good aim wouldn't be a bad thing to have as well. Hello, I'm Kat! I'm an experienced DM with a total of 6348 hours of gaming and session prep work on Roll20, and with a heavy background in writing and a bit in drama. Currently, I'm looking for one more player to join a heavily expanded Dragon Heist game on Mondays at 7pm CST! This campaign is a heavy RP and urban-intrigue focused amalgamation of my own work and things I've learned from prior Dragon Heist games I've run since 2018, mixed with bits and pieces I've incorporated from the larger module community and Faerun lore, into a more complex and cohesive overarching adventure that fleshes out aspects I feel the original module sadly overlooked or which didn't tie together in a way that felt particularly satisfying. At this point, it is likely triple it's original size, if not more, and I have ideas on how it can continue on after the main module depending on player choices. This is not the popular Alexandrian Remix of the game, though I've taken ideas from it. I made my own rewrite focusing on expanding the urban plotlines and antagonist schemes. We currently we have a half-drow sorcerer, a minotaur barbarian, a shifter druid, and a noble human paladin, with everyone being good aligned or neutral but leaning towards good. It seems like we're shaping up to have a cross party theme of outsiders and people who want to protect more venerable members of the city. We're still in chapter two of the module near the beginning of the game, so there's plenty of opportunities to be introduced! We're on session ten right now, and the party is level four after starting at level three, and the campaign will likely go to level 8 for the module at minimum before expanding to post-module content. I have a full session by session recap if you would like to see what all has happened so far and what the campaign is like before you commit. I also have google docs on Waterdeep Locations , as well as NPCs and Organizations to give you a feel for the city setting that you will be stepping into. Even though we've already started, I'll have a one-on-one session zero to bring you up to speed and answer any questions you may have about the adventure, setting, or general character creation and what you're looking to get out of your character's story before your first session as well. In addition to Roll20 which will be used for tokens and maps, we will use Discord for chat (My Discord tag is Shadowkat678#0160), and D&D Beyond for character sheets. For D&D Beyond, you will be able to access all released content yourself through content sharing in my D&D Beyond Campaigns. The sessions will be between three and four hours long, and you can either do voice chat only or voice and video. Please make sure you have a mic that doesn't have constant feedback and static. About The Game, And What Is Different This Waterdeep game is going to be heavily focused on roleplay, storytelling, and intrigue. Combat will not be nearly as regular an occurrence as in many other 5e games. Depending on party choices, the percentage can sway a bit, but I do not make it a habit of having combat just for combat's sake, but instead only try to insert it when it makes sense for the story. Creating connections to organizations and NPCs will be a big part of this campaign. Dragon Heist's main gimmick upon release was choosing one of four villains. Instead, I have expanded the storyline to flesh out and interweave all the major characters, and even added new ones to further tie together the plot. Each of them has their own goals, secrets, and motivations, and opinions just like the party, and will interact accordingly. Being able to go up against so many big players will also mean having some good allies! There are a lot of moving parts, so notetakers will find their skillsets coming in very handy, but if you aren't one to take good notes, don't worry. Because I have sheets for locations, NPCs, organizations, and recaps to look back on if you ever need any refreshers. People who will get the most out of this campaign are people that aren't afraid to get into the roleplay and actively engage. If you're looking for a game where you're choices matter, your background is implemented, and the story will directly take you into account, look no further! You will get out of it what you put in, and the effort you take to learn about the people, places, and events will directly feed into what happens. This does not mean that your character has to be socially competent. You can choose any type of character or personality as long as it's one that will work with a team, and I will work with you and your concept to weave it into the narrative. At the core of my DM philosophy, your characters matter, and their story matters, and what they do will matter. Here is my Character Creation Guide and the House Rules that our table uses. About Me I am not a voice actor. I can do a few accents, some funny voices, but mostly I try to vary tones, speech patterns, and other smaller aspects. If you come in expecting Matthew Mercer's level of acting skill, you will be disappointed. I have not been to VA school. I put a lot of thought and heart into my games. I put time into prep and crafting a story around a group of players. Storytelling is something I've been doing as a child, and my DMing is an extension of that love. Not in a way that I want to tell a story AT you, but I want to tell it with you. I also do a lot of advocacy work, and this often bleeds into my DMing where I want to create nuanced, and diverse stories and a welcoming environment for everyone. Saying that, I have had an incident in the past where I have had to kick a player for discriminatory behavior to another person at the table, and I do not want a repeat of this event. I do not accept such behavior at my tables, period. I value communication and mutual respect. I find 99% of problems at a table stem from not talking and understanding the boundaries and expectations of other players, and listening to the group around you. If you have problems or concerns, we will talk about them like mature adults and try our best to find a solution. You treat your fellow players and me with human decency, and everyone agrees to follow a shared social contract not to be an ass to each other. Player Reviews Here are a few reviews from players already in one of my two Waterdeep campaigns that I'm plucking off of my StartPlaying profile here . Jack: "Kat is very prepared and invested in the lore and story, but remains open to player collaboration and shows interest and engagement with character details across the board. She runs a conscientious game, keeps the spotlight moving around as needed, and maintains a comfortable tone balancing casual fun and immersive play. The game world feels dense and alive, with much going on beyond the party's knowledge, and also open to charting our own course. Highly recommended." Bill: "I've been playing in one of Kat's campaigns for 10 sessions now. I can't recall when I've had so much fun playing D&D. Like me, she is a "Lore Nerd" and we have collaborated from character creation until present providing each other with tidbits we've discovered over the years playing in the Forgotten Realms. Kat weaves such an intriguing tale and portrays NPCs with so much detail that you feel you know them and want to be their friend. And she will match the effort you put in and up the ante. If you come to their table with an elaborate backstory, you will see elements cropping up here and there in the overall story. This makes all the effort you put into defining your character so much more rewarding. The more you put in the more you will get out. I've played TTFRPs since 1978. I've been in hundreds of campaigns with dozens of DMs. I'd put Kat in the top three without hesitation. I can't recommend her highly enough. The level of immersion is unsurpassed. I find myself looking forward to every session and dreading each one's end. " Nick: "Kat is a great DM, and an all around great person! They put a lot of effort into their story weaving, and the attention to detail really shows. I've played about 10 sessions of this stylized and customized urban style campaign with Kat now, and the amount of player creative freedom she allows has been a breath of fresh air. Heavily roleplay focused, these sessions have really made it feel as though we are living, breathing entities in the world, and we are going to shape our story by our own means. It is delightful to have such an open and caring DM who considers everyone in the conversations, and makes sure everyone has a chance to shine. I look forward to more!" Scott: "Played in Kat's Custom Dragon Heist Campaign, and she makes the city feel like another character. I have spent many sessions in Waterdeep in other campaigns, but Kat's version is the best. Great Characters, and great stories. She took the time to help me build a meaningful backstory and is super easy to work with between sessions. This is exactly what every player wants. During session she handles things phenomenally. Keeping the game moving, letting players roleplay, and making everyone feel comfortable is where she excels. I have already booked a second campaign with her, and I'm excited for some potential one shots. A GM I respect, and would GM a game for her to play in anytime. " In Conclusion! We'd love to have you, and again, any experience level is welcome as long as you're liking what you're reading and like story driven games. Again, feel free to pm me if you have any questions or would like to view any of my player documents or recaps before deciding if you would like to apply. When you do contact me, if you could please answer these questions I'd appreciate it: -Name, pronouns, and time zone. -How long have you been playing 5e, and what is your typical play style? -What drew you towards my game specifically, and what are you looking for in a group? -Do you have any questions or concerns? Anything I missed that you're wondering about? -Did you read the full listing, yes or no? And do you agree to the payment terms and table rules? -Lastly, just for fun, tell me a fun fact or a funny Tabletop story you've experienced!
